is this socially acceptable

there is this guy that i met a month ago in college, he's with me in two of my classes. i was thinking of asking him if I could hang out with him on the weekend since my roommate is so boring and lazy. now, would this be a weird thing to ask ?
its been years since I met new people so i really dont know how to do this; not only that, but im from saudi arabia. the good thing is that we have a lot of stuff in common and I went to a concert with him before.
again, what do you guys think about this ?

Well I imagine that if you went to a concert together asking him to hang out isn't a big deal.

Just ask if he wants to have a couple of drinks, and when he's drunk enough you can take advantage :P
