It is a scam, they also use it to trick you into posting on gamespot and advertising the holiday and it's true intentions further.

Btw, commercial profit from one's feelings isn't solely focused up on Valentine's Day alone. It happens everyday by many other businesses. It's capitalism, and it makes the world go 'round.

If people didn't like it they wouldn't spend so much money on it. You don't need to get mad at people who are different than you. How is it hypocritical?

Last time checked love wasn't a scam. Unless your prostitute hits you in your head an you pass out and when you finally come around you realize one kidney missing and all your cash is gone.

Hallmark did not create Valentine's Day, I believe its in commemoration of St. Valentine.

Yeah, it is a bit of a scam though. the ideology behind the day is great; the execution of said ideology is not.

In a way I suppose you could call it that. People have said to me I woulden't dislike the day so much if I had someone...Well I have someone and I still am not really in favour of it but not for the buying stuff reason...Well it's partly that but it is more complex than that.

what i see in the valentine day is not love but the commercial manifestation of what some people think love is If Romeo offered a card to Juliet in a particular day of the year i am sure she would not die for him

I would say no, because it is accepted by the North American people as a holiday and has been adopted into our culture.

A scam in terms of making people think that material gifts will make someone "love" them, yes.

Of course! It's based on the decapitaion of Saint Valentine! So what do we do? We buy...chocolate. Makes sense. ****ing corperations feed us some bull**** about how this is a day to show your love. What, like we don't the REST OF THE YEAR? It's a pointless celebration and the worst part is the majority of people just go with it. It's just a lovly reminder that people are so easily influence into pointless rituals.
