I'm pretty sure it's not but my brother watches anime on websites like animefreak.tv and animeshippuuden.com and claims it is. Okay, so one day I was bored so I went to go watch a couple movies uploaded on youtube and brothers stops by... "Nerkcon, that's illegal, they were uploaded!" He claims what he watches online is legal because some of them upload some of their episodes on their websites for free. So why does he go to sites that have hundreds of annoying advertisements everywhere like a cheap porn website that uploads THE ENTIRE SERIES on their website? Is it legal? It would be awesome if it is but I just doubt it. :(

I thought it depends if the series was licensed to be sold in your country.

I'm not too sure but watching online is legal I believe but uploading the videos is illegal if the series is already licensed to be distributed online by someone else.

I think it varies from case to case.

Interesting. But does this mean if a show has English voice overs or even official subtitles it is probably licensed in the west and thus illegal to watch online for free?

I'm pretty sure the act of watching it is not illegal. the action of uploading the video however may be illegal depending on the series, website, etc.

Ya, it's legal if your just watching it. If you download it, on the other hand, it's probably illegal, depending where you get it from. But, otherwise, it's legal, ya.

I don't really know or care. All I am concerned about is that I get my fansubs out on time. Crunchyroll subs for Naruto Shippuuden officially suck.

All depends on licensing issues of different animes.
