Everybody gots their own beliefs and they cant be proven right or wrong. Even the beliefs of atheist cant be proven right or wrong. They most likely are dead wrong like most people are.

No. It's always interesting to hear the beliefs of someone else, provided they do it in a civil manner. Every discussion about beliefs doesn't have to be focused on proving the other person wrong.

I enjoy hearing people's point of view, though sometimes I think they're moronic. For example, this happened today.

A women in one of my classes made a big deal that ADELE(Fat singer girl) is having a child and isn't married, what benefits does being married offer someone who's worth 32 million dollars?

She didn't offer anything besides it being the 'right' thing to do.

Yes it is pointless.

As I've said before all religions including atheism are exactly the same. Arguing which one is better is like arguing which brand of mayonnaise is better. Everyone has a preference, but there is no real difference.

It's nice to share beliefs the problem is some people can't just accept those are your beliefs and leave it at that, they always want to attack your beliefs and keep hounding you of why you should believe like them.

Even the beliefs of the condemned and wicked should be taken into account, a good example would be Hitler While he was clearly an evil man certain ideas of his have been beneficial to society and he was ahead of his time on several accounts (smoking, highways). Through debate we can see the truth and decide upon what ways society can unfold for the best. If we sit quietly and allow ideas to go unopposed we may end up with something that very few wish for. Part of why I like forums is because the beliefs of others is just so interesting

It depends on the context of what your beliefs require. I know of several faiths that REQUIRE you to at least try and convert people over. It doesn't mean you have to be successful, but you have to at least try to at a minimum. If you don't try at all you could go to Hell for inaction.

It's kind of like a person who knows CPR and sees a victim while in a place with a Good Samaritan law. If he tries to save him and fails then at least he tried. But if he doesn't do anything at all he could be in trouble for inaction.

On the other side of the fence, you have Atheists who want to convince people to get rid of religion out of concerns people are using their religious beliefs in making decisions on laws, such as gay marriage and medical procedures.

If you have something original to say or something that needs to be emphasized, then no, it's not, but if you're merely parroting someone else as so many YouTube commenters seem to do (and is natural for them to do so), then yes, it is pointless.

It's not at all pointless to talk about them, but it's definitely pointless to ARGUE about them. Discussion between open-minded people can absolutely provide valuable insight for both parties, even if nothing has been definitively resolved. But the kind of arguing about "who's right" that tends to happen on the internet? Yeah, that's absolutely nearly 100% bull$***.

1) They aren't the same. You seem to be unable to understand the concept of similarities and differences. 2) I don't know enough about mayo to say whether or not they're all the same. But assuming that any of them are different, then some of them may indeed be better. The fact that some people prefer the inferior products doesn't change that.

That's entirely true, but it doesn't in any way invalidate what Slipknot said. He didn't say that ALL beliefs are fundamentally unprovable, he said that everyone holds beliefs which are unable to be disproven or proven.

The thing is, if one is to argue that one belief is more or less credible than another, then they'd better be PRESENTING facts instead of just different beliefs.

Expressing beliefs and acting on them is not the same thing.

And he is not exactly incorrect.

Think of the WBC. Having their bigoted beliefs out in the open has made more people aware of religious extremism and human stupidity. Also here applies the principle that "you need to get it wrong a couple times in order to get it right". Humanity learns through its mistakes. Let a portion of the population that is wrong freely express their wrong beliefs so that the rest of the population realises what is sensible by contrast.

If you analyse human behaviour you'll find much of it pointless in the grand scheme of things. Me posting this for example is pointless. No one will gain anything from reading it and I've just wasted a good 33 seconds of life and approximately 3 calories in doing so. Everyone's a loser.

Even the beliefs of atheist cant be proven right or wrong. They most likely are dead wrong like most people are.slipknot0129

Yes but if you associate atheism with science and the scientific method then I have to say that science is currently the most accurate picture of the universe that we currently have in our possession. Well it's not perfect but it's definitely closest to the truth.

Many, many beliefs can and have been proven wrong.

Then those would be facts. Everybody still has beliefs that cant be proven right or wrong.

He thinks that religion is like science; mathematical equations and cold, hard facts. Forget about it.

Only if you think every belief has the same amount of credibility (including if you believe that) its pointless to talk about ones beliefs.

MrGeezer

The thing is, if one is to argue that one belief is more or less credible than another, then they'd better be PRESENTING facts instead of just different beliefs.

Good reason is more than adequate.

Isnt it pointless to even talk about your beliefs?

Everybody gots their own beliefs and they cant be proven right or wrong. Even the beliefs of atheist cant be proven right or wrong. They most likely are dead wrong like most people are.

slipknot0129

Well athiests have logic on their side and tend not to believe in magic. So at least some factual evidence resides on the athiest side.
