It takes faith to believe there isn't a God.

Some of us have had God pounded into our heads ever since we were young that we can't help but subconsiously think he's up there, even when we don't want to believe in him.

It takes a leap of faith to maybe think that, "Maybe he isn't up there."

Faith is belief without proof.

You may have had "God pounded into your head" since you were young, but that does not constitute proof. I would say it takes courage, strength of will, many other things to defy your upbringing, but it doesn't necessarily take faith.

I might argue it takes faith to believe (if you'll forgive the cliche) the Flying Spaghetti Monster doesn't exist. It doesn't; we can't prove it one way or the other, so the burden of proof lies with those claiming for existence, hence faith must come from them.

Couldn't you just post on the other thread instead making a new one?

Excellent answer, and I'll agree with this.

There is no proof that there is or isn't a god. My belief is highly laid down on "no god/godess/goddesses". Or spirits, or any other superstition.

No it doesn't. An atheist bases his/her beliefs strictly on evidence.

Can't "believe" people are actually serious......the word "faith" was used as a topic title for word play. He is basicallly saying "I have faith that there isn't a God". Get it? Faith, God, religious faith? Here's another word play "Economy Down, Frowns Up"

No it doesn't.

There is no evidence whatsoever for a god, so why would it take anything other than logic to not believe in it?

It doesn't seem that way, he kept using the word faith, which doesn't happen when you use word play. Additionally, he used it in the more secular 'leap of faith' context.

no, it takes science and rationality to believe there isn't a god.

i was brought up a buddhist but the stupid Australian NSW Education lets some crazy preaching christians in, when i was about 6 i already found about a page of flaws with what they were saying, so i ignored the complete bull**** they put to me ever since. Now that i'm in high school you can avoid these things.

The problem is, God is simply continuously redefined to fit with modern knowledge. (A literal interpretation of) Genesis was disproven, so the perception of God was altered to that he started life and started and/or guided evolution. Besides, it's pretty hard to prove a negative. I can say that unicorns exist, and it would be virtually impossible to disprove me, since nobody could actually visit everywhere in the galaxy to show that they do not exist. It becomes even harder with supernatural beings, which would exist in some capacity outside of our universe. Hence, it is impossible to disprove them merely from our universe. The point is, inability to disprove something is not a good reason to believe it.

I guess it takes faith in humanity to believe there is a God. Faith that our Science means something, faith in our senses, faith in our minds... Personally, I don't think we currently have the mental capacity to work out if there is a God or not. Its kind of like trying to teach a cat maths - it just can't be done. Generally people don't like hearing that though because it makes them feel insiginificant.

Yeah, maybe it does in the case you outlined but I maintain that the default position is atheism. Without that head-pounding, humans are born and live as atheistically as cows.

True other animals don't even the mental capacity or the developed brains to even think and argue about this. They just live their lives as it is. We think we are superior to animals, we think we are special but the fact is we are not: We are just animals who got smart.

If you define God as the supreme ruler of the universe then I don't believe in such a God because I don't believe in rulers or in rulership and especially not in supreme rulers. But if you define God as the supreme or ultimate reality or as a person or thing of supreme value then I do want to believe in such a good God.

But yeah everyone has a right to believe what suits him/her. If it makes your life easier or if it makes your life better then it's good as long as you don't enforce your beliefs on other people.

Yeah, this is my opinion as well. People are jumping on this because of the word "faith", which is a word that can be easily used outside of religious context. I have faith that there isnt a God. In other words, I BELIEVE that there isnt a God. I have FAITH that I will find a job soon. Just because I have "faith" in something, doesnt mean it is in a religious standpoint.

No, I don't believe in God because I don't have faith. The non-existence of God is the status quo. I'd have to have faith to believe in God, not the other way round.

The problem of proof of god lies in what people consttute as "proof."

A woman could regard a newborn baby as proof of god's splendor, while another one can see it as a bundle of cells and processes.

Truths are subjective at times, as is faith.
