Imo, it just tastes damn better than french/ chinese/ indian/ mexican/ spanish whatever. I mean whereelse do you get such awesomeness; spaghetti bolognese, lasagna, rissotto( the epitome of rice), foccacia, cappucino, gelato(think ice cream but 1,000 X better), to name but a few. French cuisune always struck me as a bit pretentious,and not as simple and wholesome as italian food.

I like Indian, Mexican/Spanish?, Chinese, Thai, and Italian food fairly equally. Italian just has too many damn noodles to be #1.

a well-made tomato sauce is nice, but Italian food overall is bland. Cajun food is best.

All Mediterranean cultures eat food which is low-fat and good for the heart / innards. Pasta is overwhelming.My better half makes a huge vat of it,(sauce) and we eat it for 4-5 days at a time.
