Agree or disagree ? Please share your opinion in this matter , why parents have to pay fine to son for throwing away his porn collection, isn't keeping porn illegal in first place?

While I do think parents should have the right to do this with their own kids, it is technically destruction of property. And no, porn is not illegal. A store can't sell porn to a minor, but it is not a crime for a minor to possess porn.

It is property. I think there are very specific laws about property and its destruction in the US.

Doesn't matter if it is porn.

No.

Well....maybe?

The US has really weird laws that are state-specific and even weirder ones that are county-specific. For example, in some places oral sex and anal sex is illegal. These are old laws and such made by idiots that think sex is just for a married man and woman and only for making babies.

Hell, where I used to live, if five or more women lived together it technically made that building a brothels and was therefore illegal. The irony is that this was a college town and we had a shit load of brothels sororities.

Thankfully people don't really enforce these laws, like at all.

"The 43-year-old son said they had no right to throw out the collection of films, magazines and other items, which he said was worth $29,000 (£21,500)."

43-year-old son !

This link to the story from Jezebel.com has some more details.

I hope his parents can appeal this. They told him if he was gonna move in with them, not to bring in porn. What does he do? Brings in a dozen boxes of it, moves out, and has the gall to think they're gonna send it out to him?! Hell no! That's a damn biohazard right there. Plus, he's a grown-ass man in 21st century society, why the hell does he have physical porno in this day and age?! And 30 G's worth, on top of it--what, are these first edition collector's items? Get a hard drive like any normal perv! Damn!

Personal property has value, although I'm hard-pressed to give any credence to a man in his 40s with that tangible amount of porn while living with his parents. The fact that any suit was brought upon his parents for "destroying" that large amount of porn showcases how silly it is.

lol. Oh no, he maybe have to use the internet now.

I don't know, having his porn collection destroyed feels like a pretty fitting punishment for still living with your parents. Too bad he succeeded in forcing his parents to pay for it. Wasn't it enough that he still gets to live in their house? Hopefully, he's not welcome there anymore.

Aside from the monetary aspect (because 30K for "used" magazines/videos/Toys seems ridiculous. How did they get to that number?) it doesn't seem like....a bad ruling. Unless they can prove that he abandoned the property by leaving it in the basement for a certain period...It seems the only recourse they had for him breaking the agreement would be removing him from the household.

Then again, I am not a lawyer. I don't even play one on TV!

This is embarrassing for a 43-year-old to own $30K worth of physical pornographic items.

@Ring_of_fire: According to the article, after they asked their son to move out, the son expected them to ship all 12 boxes of porn out to where he Indiana, where he moved to. The parents said "F*** that noise", and threw it out.

As someone who used to work in a video store where they had an adult only section, I know how disgusting people are. They should have burned his collection (and maybe the house down, just to be safe). This isn't an issue of Playboy or Hustler under their teenage son's mattress--this is a whole section of an porno shop! If you're middle-aged, got that much smut in your collection, and the cojones to move back in with your parents... you've made some terrible decisions in your life. I wanna know where he screwed up to even get to that point!

That's just.... wow.
