How bad most user's grammar is on these forums.

I understand there is a decent "foreign" population", who currently live outside the US where English is not thier native language.

However, I find it hard to believe that they are the only people who butcher grammar on here.

Sure, I'm not perfect (and make mistakes) and I don't expect anyone to be, but damn some of the stuff I read on here is just horrible. It doesn't even make sense and it may take you 5 or 6 times to actually understand what the person is saying.

Also, I've been a member on a few different boards on different sites. And yes, people on there make their mistakes. I just never see it as bad as it is on here.

Could it be that most of the people on here go home and game it up instead of hitting the books? ;)

I'm not here to point the finger at anyone, but really...I can't be the only one who notices this.

Sorry if I come off like a dick, I'm just being honest.

It's just spelling/grammar, and it doesn't need to be perfect to be understood. What are you, an English teacher :?

Don't be sorry, you are right.

Especially when they write in forum slang. Takes me like 3 times to understand what they are writing.

Well, I must be seeing different things here because most peoples English on here is quite good. I'd say maybe 20% of the posters here aren't too great and make it a bit tricky to understand, but you make it sound as if a majority do. Unless it's incredibly hard to understand, then it's not really a big deal or anything.

It isn't the majority of users on here. Most people on here have great, if not perfect grammar.

However its much more noticeable here than other boards.

Also, I notice it the most in OT as opposed to other smaller boards on GS.

I guess what worries me is that I work with a few people that talk in broken english and it makes them come off a bit uneducated.

This one guy can't talk right to save his life and he has a 12 year old kid. I wonder how his kid can even look up to him or ask him for help with his schoolwork. :?

It annoys the hell out of me too. I love the English language (and being a resident of England) and find myself mentally correcting all the misspelled and badly formed messages, thread titles etc.

I know that English isn't the first language of everyone on GS but it is for the majority of users. If someone creates a thread where they can't even spell simple words and/or form a sentence then it just tells me your poorly educated.

Most people also don't seem to have noticed that GS has a very useful spellchecker!

 People are very touchy when it comes to opinion. Which is exactly what I said. My opinion! Whatever happened to freedom of speech?

I went to school just like everyone else here and I (obviously not like everyone else) like to see things spelt properly and written well. I'm not going to apologise for liking good language as it doesn't affect anyone else. I know this is just an internet forum but if people can't even type sentences properly it just points to a lack of intelligence on their part.

I don't mind as long as...

1. People use paragraphs (no walls of text please.)

2. At least use full stops.

3. Don't deliberately make something harder to read (by using dumb forum slang) if you are capable of better.

yeah it may point to a lack of intelligence to a person like you, but the majority of people would not care, what's the point on typing to an essay standard when there is no one to mark it? lol. i could have most of it perfect but it would be a waste of time and effort. i don't like it when people spell incorrectly because i don't understand then, but if it's like what i have done here then it's no problem, you can still read it? yes you can, quit yurrr jibba jabba.

I cant stand it when people cant use correct grammar and spelling. Does it have to be done? Of course not, but if its your native lanquage then you should known and use correct grammar/spelling. I can hand somethings like "o i didnt no wat u said", even if its horrible, but when people type like "HeY, watz up u losarzzzzz Hahah I R Better Than U!". Thats just horrible.

I don't think the grammar here is really as bad as you say. I think you should just stop letting it bother you.
