I got a new laptop for graduating high school about a month ago. iTunes was working fine up until yesterday. I have windows vista and this is what it says after i click iTunes shortcut:

"iTunes has stopped working

A problem cause the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. "

Then I have to click close program and its done.

I have tried restarting the computer, I had the computer turned off all night and in the morning the same thing happened. I turned the computer off for a while again and it still won't work. I've tried plugging in my iPod without opening iTunes first and instead of syncing, the same "iTunes has stopped working" thing popped up again.

I havn't called Apple yet, I may tomorrow. I was just hoping someone on the forums will be able to help.

Any advice is appreciated.

Have you tried reinstalling iTunes? Sounds like another victim of Vista.

Buy a Zune.

Oh great. That way, he won't even get past the installation process before everything stops working.

Try this

Basically you need to remove ALL traces of iTunes and quicktime before reinstalling. Since you have Vista, its a little bit of a pain in the butt. 1) Go to your control panel and open "Program and Files" or whatever it is 2) Uninstall iTunes but do not reboot the computer yet. 3) Uninstall Quicktime, and any other apple products (Software Update and Media Devices) 4) Reboot. 5) Open "My Computer" and then your main drive (typically C:), scroll down to "Program Files." Verify iTunes and Quicktime folders do not exist. If they still exist, delete them. 6) Go back to C: and highlight the "Windows" folder 7) Go to the folder "System 32", and delete the Quicktime information in there. 8) Next, go to "Windows/User" and highlight each individual user's AppDate folder. Delete any "Apple" folders (it should only be Quicktime and iTunes information). 9) Finally, go to your user "Music" and move all your music to another location. Delete the iTunes cache files, including artwork. Reboot. You do not "have" to reboot, but why not. 10) Reinstall iTunes and Quicktime.

Uninstall iTunes, delete all the related files and folders, then download and install the latest version.

If you leave the iTunes library files and your music files alone it should import all that stuff automatically when you install iTunes again.

1. Uninstall itunes

2. Get a good night's sleep to remove all thoughts and memories of itunes.

3. Download foobar2000 or Winamp.

iTunes and Windows Vista are like OJ and Nicole (or maybe the other way around in your case). I'd see if jumping back to an earlier restore point solves anything, especially as you said it was working fine a day or two ago. Did you install anything or update anything the previous day?

I hade to go into my control pannel

then to the uninstall thing and uninstal everything by Apple..there where 5 programs.

After ununstalling all I had to do was re-install itunes and all my music was automatically transferred over.

So what you fellas are saying is that if I delete iTunes, my song, and video files will stay on my computer and then when I redownload iTunes, they will automatically import back into it? Is there anything special i have to do with the files in my music folder? and is shouldi delete the files that are in my music folder that are listed as itunes database files? there are 4 of them... should i delete them on top of the apple files in my programs? If you couldnt tell I am having the same problem. THANKS GUYS.

Why is it that people only think 2 types of mp3 players exist? Do they not know there are many out there that cost less, sound better and they don't have to deal with programs to get songs to the player.

Actually, you know what's funny? I couldn't get the Zune software update to install properly. Care to guess what the problem was? Windows firewall had to be enabled. Of all things.

I would add deleting everything in the Temp folder to that troubleshooting list. Type "temp" in the search bar in the Start menu.

Like a smartphone, which does everything those products do and more.
