How would i present this idea to a company. For 5 years ive been jotting down notes for game ideas(just for fun). And as its piled up i have an entire world, with a great plotline and a very interesting idea. Im just wondering how i would go about presenting this to a company. And all of the technical stuff. Its just a dream i know, but i really hope one day this game could be made.

If you are really serious, you should patent the idea before someone steals it away from you. Then present it to companies.

I hate to dampen your wishes but it takes a lot of hard work and there is still no gaurantee. There is no shortage of ideas atm and you'd have to know someone well to get a look in.

I'm sorry but you and everyone that plays videogames have a good idea for a videogame..but it doesn't work like that... game designers don't even work on games they want too... The Big Wigs call the shots as to what they want to work on, you won't be able to just walk into a company and give them your idea and bam its done, the only advice i can give you is, work your way up in the game industry doing something, being the video game idea person doesn't exist.. so if you really want this, you'll make it happen

Yep, though designers tend to have a huge back log of ideas so i can't see them taking it

Yellow pages, get a lawyer he'll organise a patent. You can only patent game mechanics and source code. So make sure you do your research so there are no loop holes. if, by chance, a company copies your idea then you can sue OR settle for a deal to make your own game, make sure you wait until they go almost gold, then you'll have them on their knees.

i never patented something so i don't know..but i'm serious, you just can't walk in their and say your idea and it gets done.. only way is to become the best of friends with a producer for a game company or like i said, get your foot in the biz..and climb that ladder...

Get a job in the industry, work really hard, get really lucky and maybe in 8-10 years you can pitch your idea.

You probably have to get a job working at a video game company, and in order to do that, you need training in a related field, whether it be graphics, animation, programming, etc.

If you are serious about your idea, you might pursue your dream and after a lot of hard work and determination, one day see it realized.

Keep working on your idea. Don't stop now.

He was the creator of Newgrounds if I remember correctly, and Newgrounds is a pretty popular site. If you wanna get the game made, either make your company, know a games producer or join a developer and work your way up. If it's possible, you could make a little demo-ish thing yourself. Learn Flash, make your game with it, show it off to developers, it'll certainly help.

Well, they say the way to sucess starts with an idea... or something like that. I'm no professional advisor in this matter, but maybe go to college and get a degree in game design?

EDIT: I know how you feel, by the way. I have an AWESOME idea for a Metroid game, but, alas,I have to wait 5 years till' I go to college...

I'd copyright the idea first before shopping it to companies. Otherwise they will steal it mercilessly. Otherwise just start contacting PR departments.

You'd have to try to set up a meeting with whoever handles that stuff at a game company. In the very unlikely chance they agree to see you, you would pitch your idea and they'd most likely reject it, and then you'd desperately try to get more people to hear your pitch, and the cycle that ends with you in gay porn begins.

It isn't terribly hard to copyright something as long as you have 130 bucks and know how to read legaleese.

For something as nebulous as a "game idea", it's pretty hard :)

Wrong, look at games like Haze and lair, they had brilliant concepts but piss-poor execution.
