Do you guys think Lin is the the real deal? Or is the news and media over hyping him because he's asian and from harvard?

The hype is just because he's Asian. If he wasn't, he wouldn't be getting covered at all.

Also everything about New York teams gets blown out of proportion.
Maybe he'll end up being a serviceable PG but I don't see him keeping this pace up. He would've proven it earlier.
I think they're playing tonight. Ah, I see. That's a different connotation on the "VS" that I hadn't considered.[QUOTE="mattbbpl"]We're comparing Lin to Bryant, already?
I like these type of underdog stories AND I dislike Bryant, but this thing is getting out of hand.Pirate700
No one finds it a little racist that he's not getting all the attention because he is a good player, he's getting attention because he's asian....I know their aren't a lot of asians in the nba but if Lin was a black dude he wouldn't even being getting the respect and attention Lin is.

I think it's also that he's living on his brother's couch. Went to Harvard and has been in the D league because they didn't think he was good enough. Was undrafted and has a strong personality not often seen with pro asian athletes in NA. Now, he has a good couple of games and people are saying 'thank jeebas, the Knicks have a PG'. It's blown up even more because it is hitting huge markets, NY and asians. We will see what he can do when the lineup is healthy, will he be able to move the ball or will Melo just play catch and shoot again?
To be fair, I think NY is just hurting to get a good team that they would take anyone who can play, no matter the race. Give them some swagger and a few wins and they'll love you forever, until you make a mistake. Then it's, 'I told you he couldn't play'. Next.
It's not racist at all. Nobody is saying anything negative about him because he's asian. It would be nice if race wasn't a point of interest though. No one finds it a little racist that he's not getting all the attention because he is a good player, he's getting attention because he's asian....I know their aren't a lot of asians in the nba but if Lin was a black dude he wouldn't even being getting the respect and attention Lin is.

If it were because of racists, they wouldn't be hyping him up. People really need to learn what racism is... They are doing it because of his race, RACISM. In this case its good for him.[QUOTE="chad_daddy"]Racists hyping him up , just because hes Asian. Pirate700

Someone saying all Asians are good at math is a positive thing but it's still racist.[QUOTE="chad_daddy"][QUOTE="Pirate700"]If it were because of racists, they wouldn't be hyping him up. I don't think you understand the situation. Nobody is saying he's good or bad at the game because he's asian. He just happens to be an asian in a sport that's about 99% black (he may be the only one since Ming retired). That's not racism. But they are paying more attention to him because he's Asian.I don't think you understand the situation. Nobody is saying he's good or bad at the game because he's asian.

But they are paying more attention to him because he's Asian.Only because he's asian in an almost all black sport. Nobody is judging his ability because he's Asian. That's not racism.[QUOTE="Pirate700"]

It's certainly a good story for sure. He just outplayed Kobe to beat the Lakers, and he managed to outplay Deron Williams (a top PG) as well. I don't know if he'll be able to consistently put up 25+ pts and 10 assist for much longer, but he doesn't haven't to. I'm not a Knicks fan, but for a player like him, I hope he develops into a solid player.amari24I can play better defense with my eyes closed than Deron Williams plays.
Well he scored 38 tonight against a team that many would be the first to shut him down since they play a defense that supposedly weakens his strong points.
