According to Alexa, GS was was the 109th most visited site on the internet last month. This may not seem like a significant number but when you consider all the porn and gambling sites as well as search engines this number becomes significant. As we all know from the http://valleywag.com/tech/jeff-gerstmann/gamespot-editor--on-fired-reviewer-328775.php article, Jo$h Lar$en was brought in to "casualize" GS.
How the **** does he expect the site to get even more popular when your "casual gamer" isn't gonna visit the web for the purpose of doing research on video games? I have a few friends that can be named as casual gamers. They don't follow games and most of them don't even buy games but play them at other people's houses and enjoy games nonetheless. By doing these following things Lar$en have ensured that GS will stop being visited by "hardcore gamers" that make this site so popular and overall lose its intergity (I argue that it has already):
- Dumbing down the review system (come on, it is clear now that he was behind that)
- Thinking he can get away with firing one of the most experienced game journalists ever WITHOUT a legit reason (in case you live under a rock I am talking about Jeff of course)
- Allowing publishers to influence review scores
- Creating a "poisoned environment" at the GS offices, preventing them from doing their jobs properly (which is actually technically illegal)
Feel free to add to the list.
