First Obama now McCain.:? link

This reminded me of a time when my Grandpa said we should just nuke the entire Middle East until it's one big crater.
As a first instinct, I don't think a sustained opposition is likely to be as easy to maintain in Syria as it was in Libya. In Libya, the major cities were widely spread out and power was decentralized between numerous factions, of which Ghaddafi's loyalists were just one. The opposition groups were able to keep most of the eastern cities as their strongholds. In Syria, power is more centralized and the country is more dense and urbanized. It'll be harder to establish a haven for the opposition. Still, if we can get a UNSC resolution, intervention from the air might be something worth attempting, since the situation is deteriorating so quickly.
I think we need to focus on diplomacy and less warmongering. Seriously, bombing syria is not going to solve their crisis.

I agree. But on our way there, we should "accidentally" drop a few hundred thousand on Tehran.

The US still does a lot of things contrary to my opinions...You're saying Syria is not worth the investment. I agree but want to point out that Iraq wasn't either, but the U.S. still did it.

Not enough to fight a war over that's for sure.
Contrary to popular internet belief, the wars in the Middle East haven't been over oil. Sure it's easy to rationalize that when you're just trying to blame somebody, but that is very wrong.
In the case of Syria (I don't want to dwell on Iraq), if the US gets involved it will be a joint operation with NATO just like Lybia was. There won't be boots on the ground and the majority of the campaign would just be to eliminate the military installations that Syria has. Then, like in Lybia, it would be up to the people of the nation to win the final battle. Syria is a smaller nation, so the fighting will be more intense.
At this point, it's only a matter of time before the west gets invovled. Russia has finally backed off which has opened the door to NATO and UN action.
It's going to be intresting.
Personally, I'm a bit more worried about Israel's theats to attack Iran. That's a much larger threat as it could drag the USA into a stupid conflict yet again.
