They are both amazing actors, yes, but who is better?
I'd say John Wayne by far. He was a patriot, an American icon, and a hero to many, many people (you can't get much better than those movies he did with dean martin). On top of that, he was a real life cowboy outside of acting.
Clint Eastwood has always had an "anti-hero" attitude that goes against the flow. But the problem is, many of his westerns made the average townsfolk look like wimps. That wasn't true, settlers had to have a lot of guts to do what they did. Look at "High Plains Drifter", for instance, John Wayne saw this, and even wrote Clint a letter about it.
But really, John Wayne created the cowboy stereotype. So calling him "cliche" is just stupid.
top John Wayne movies:
1. Rio Bravo
2. Sons of Katie Elder
3. True Grit
4. Chisum
5. The Searchers
Top Clint Eastwood movies:
1. High Plains Drifter
2. Dirty Harry
3. A fistful of dollars
4. The good, the bad and the ugly
5. For a few dollars more
the clint eastwood movies here made the townsfolk look like udder wimps, leaving the one brave cowboy to stand alone to the "bad guy". That wasn't accurate in the real Old West.
This whole thread is IMO, so flame me if you want.
