Ring of Fire is the only country song I relatively like. That said, I've never heard his material beyond that. Damn obscure modern music.

The man was absolutely brilliant. Far more deserving of the "kind of rock" title than Elvis, who wrote maybe five songs in his entire career, could hardly play guitar, and only got by on good looks and a nice voice.

well a good voice is important. Also even more important than writing a song is what you do with it. Case in point Johnny Cash's version of Hurt.
