Which is better? I thought about getting dvds because it will show the proper form on how to do the exercises but it would be hard to do the dvds because of work and everything. But my friends are a member of a gym and it's open 24/7, and it;s cheap but I wouldn't even know where to begin execise wise and if im doing the correct form when it came to dumbbells. Dvds would cost $90 the gym would go $10 or $20 a month depending on the type of membership.

To each his own. Gyms are good, but can be hard to stay consistent with unless you have a motivated friend to work out with.

Dvds are great because you don't have to leave home, don't need any fancy equipment (maybe just some barbells and those elastic bands) and then you can eat/have protein shake and shower right away.

However I don't recommend signing a contract for longer than a year at the gym, just try to avoid a contract in general.

Gym, obviously.

Just go to bodybuilding.com and find a program for what your goal is.

They have videos on how to correctly do exercises if you don't know how. There is nutrition information and plans to follow.

Find a program, and follow it to the T, and you will see results.

I choose the Gym, but I also agree that you should find a good workout partner.

Sign up for a gym, and supplement it with at home work out. You don't need to buy a DVD - you can find pretty much anything on the internet really. Including great workout forums and videos. Spend the money you'd spend on a DVD and get some nice running shoes, a jump rope, and some elastic bands.

If you're friends are already going to the gym that makes a huge difference. It becomes less tedious that way - it becomes another way to hang out with the guys. When you can't make the gym, just fall back to the bands and body weight excercises.

Get a pull up bar and do some pull ups. Or better yet, push ups. If anything, a gym membership or workout DVDs aren't really necessary unless you plan on swimming or there are extenuating circumstances.

It's not hard to use stationary bikes or treadmills to start off with until you feel more comfortable doing something else. With friends they could show you how to do the machines if they already know.

I would get a gym membership. I actually just signed a one year contract a few weeks ago and have been enjoying it since. The problem I would think with DvD's are you end up lacking equipment unless you end up buying that aswell but it'll just add on to your costs. I also feel like having a Membership keeps me motivated because I hate seeing money go to waste and it keeps me on track to work out atleast a couple times a week.

get a gym membership. There are a gazillion workout videos on YouTube that will help you have proper form. Any decent gym has a ton of machines to work muscles and muscle groups that you just couldn't work, let alone with lots of weight and low reps.

My sister lost like 50 pounds or something with Jillian Michaels DVDs and blogilates and stuff. So the dvds do work, you just have to stick with them. P90X apparently also works well, and you can use everything from chairs to emptied milk jugs filled with water as weights. Also you can borrow the dvds from the library or (wink, nudge) the internet. There's a lot of stuff on youtube as well.

If you're gonna do weight training a gym is pretty necessary. If you're just doing cardio and body workouts than I guess you could just work out at home and watch youtube videos for instruction. Though it is nice to have a gym membership to get out of the house and use all the fancy equipment / steam rooms / suanas.

I prefer exercise dvds because I can be more consistent with it. Going to the gym is a pain because you have to drive there and then drive back. I suppose if you have a gym in your building or walking distance its easier.

Also, go to youtube and find musica routines to master. that is more than enough excersise :)

you don't really need dvds. you can jst get some dumb bells and a bench and work out w/ routines from good sources on the net. or go to the gym. they're probably pretty even on the overall cost.

If you want for it to definitely work, then go to a gym. Work out DVDs are also good but with the con that they can get boring really soon.
