A big tragedy for the Spanish team of Sevilla.

The chairman of Sevilla announced earlier this day the death of the left back of Sevilla, Antonio Puerta. His situation was very bad the last hours mainly cause of serious brain damage which was a result of a heart attack during last Sunday's match against Getafe for the Spanish League. Antonio Del Nido (chairman of Sevilla) immediately applied to UEFA in order for the AEK vs Sevilla match to be postponed and having in mind the application of AEK Athens application cause of the victims from fire in Greece, UEFA decided to finally postpone tonight's match for next Monday.

Antonio Puerta played 50 matches for Sevilla and also managed to play once for the Spanish national team. He won the UEFA Cup twice with Sevilla, the Super Cup and the Spanish Cup (Copa Del Rey). The 22 year old is survived by his girlfriend, who is expecting a baby during the next month.

R.I.P. Antonio...

What gave him the heart attack anyways? Just running around on the pitch?

When it comes to football, the only official statement that you're gonna hear is "heart attack". Doping is a common secret among the teams and in all kind of sports but nothing has been proved so far for the majority of the deaths.

UEFA has released the following statement regarding Antonio Puerta's death :

"UEFA and the entire football family extend their sympathy and sincere condolences to the family of Antonio Puerta, Sevilla FC and the Spanish Football Federation. Today's event comes in a week that has plunged Greece into mourning for the tragic loss of many human lives in forest fires. In addition, UEFA would like to extend its thanks to the Spanish and Hellenic Football Federations, the two clubs and the two leagues for their flexibility and understanding in allowing the rescheduling of the match."

Damn =\ I saw this happen live to a player named Miklos Feher from S.L. Benfica a couple of years ago, it happened out of nowhere he was walking one sec with a smile on his face, the next second he just fell over.

Yep, very sad indeed, video of what happened on the pitch, RIP. And the first comment that was posted is rediculous and totally uncalled for.

The goalkeeper of Liverpool FC Jose Manuel Reina added:

"I played with him in the national team, he was one of my team-mates and all I can say is that my thoughts are with his family at such a bad moment. His wife was eight months pregnant and he was only 22. Apparently he was healthy, but these things don't give you a call. It is such a pity and is the worst day in my footballing life to know that someone who I was quite close to has left us. It makes you realise that being healthy, seeing your family and children, are the most important things in life."It was hard to play in the match after hearing the news. I heard in the afternoon and it was just unbelievable."

DaRockWilder

They are simply rare heart conditions which don't usually cause problems in the general poluation and most of the time people will never know they have a condition like it. But because some people put pressure on their hearts through playing sports, it makes them more likely to suffer fatal heart attacks if they themselves have one of these heart problems.

I would say Football/Soccer is one of the, if not the most physically demanding sport in the world, some people maybe just can handle it.

The video you posted was really sad. I agree that soccer is one of the most demanding sports, because you need to keep on running up and down the pitch for quite a long time. But, surely, before a player plays he should undergo physical exams to deem him fit.
