judgement day in reality - how might the world end?

Disclaimer - this is not a religious thread.

so, Camping has been proven wrong. i don't think any one is surprised but the whole fiasco kinda got me thinking: what are the scientifically possible scenarios in which the world, or mankind, will end instantly or over a very short period of time? a crucial premise of these scenarios is of course our inability to detect/predict and prevent them, and that leaves us with very few possibilities - meteor strike, massive tectonic activities, solar flare, pfft, maybe even alien invasion?

so, taking the end of the world out of its religious context, which do you think is the likeliest scenario?

All i know, is that the Mole People will have some hand in it!!

earth will start vaporizing from heat and eventually there would be not much left except a wisp

The time when the sun turns to a red giant

lol... it sure took no time for this thread to become a parody. but i guess it's ok. after all, we all survived the judgement day and that calls for a post rapture partay :D

Most likely I'll destroy it out of boredom.

Seriously though, the WORLD will come to an end when the Sun expands into red giant several billion years from now. Of course we humans could be wiped out long before that. If we are i think it will most likely be from some kind of natural disaster, such as the eruption of a supervulcano.

One of these days the sun is going be so big that it just om nom noms the Earth, true story.

There are two possible scenarios:

1) Our moon moves farther and farther away from us at a rate of nearly an inch and a half per yer. Now the moon is what helps keep our axis parallel to itself at any given point in orbit. Our axis being parallel to itself at any given point in orbit also affects the weather and seasons. Now once we lose our moon it is possible that our axis will no longer be parallel to itself and our axis will just change its tilt randomly, creating massive weather changes that will be uninhabitable for life.

2) Our sun after exhausting most of its fuel will go Red Giant, causing the Earth to be so close to the sun (possibly even eating it) that life could not survive on the planet.
