And I'm utterly miserable. Why didn't anyone tell me what I was signing up for? It's awful. Now that the gauze strip is gone from where the two were (it was the top and bottom ones on the left side of my face, have to do the right side next week), I'm afraid to open my mouth lest the blood clots get loose and I start bleeding to a staggering amount again. Also, I just spent 20 minutes lying down with an ice bag to my cheek doing nothing but listening to music, as per my dentist's instructions.

Do you remember the pulling of your wisdom teeth being just an all-around terrible experience, like what I'm currently feeling?

It's different for everyone. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, that you're at the more extreme end of the spectrum and not just being a total whiner. I didn't have to get my wisdom teeth pulled because I guess I have a roomy jaw. Eventually I got the top ones pulled because they had cavities. I must have been on the less extreme end of the spectrum because it only ached for a day or two.

Well I didn't actually use anaesthesia, so I was injected with novocaine, and witnessed the whole thing. It's an odd experience, laying there while somebody pulls body parts out of you. It's not really the aching in my mouth (which isn't too severe at all) that bothers me, just that I can't open my mouth for the aforementioned reason. So I'm just sitting here, with the lingering taste of blood residing in my mouth, and I can't really change that. That's mostly what bothers me, my inabilities for the time being.

I actually got mine removed just last week, it's not so bad. The first day it is pretty hard because your face is numb but it gets better, it does hurt when you wake up so always take the antibiotics and there probably be swelling and bruising later so you shouldn't talk too much. :P

When i got two teeth removed it was OK the first time , but the drugs were not working so my female dentist basic way used the jab on my gum 10 times. I was sure trippy afterwards could not feel a thing. Falling asleep , Could not say anything properly and i already have a speech impediment.

The time afterwards i got other of my two teeth removed i don't think she used enough drugs to get rid of the pain. She could not get my teeth out and she is a strong female you could see from the muscles on her arms. She was shaking my head about violently which was really painful and my mum had to hold my head still.

My advice if you can get some sleep if possible , it passes the time. Hopeful way when you wake up you gums will have scabs over them to stop blooding from spilling. I hope you feel better soon.

[QUOTE="Mkavanaugh77"]I got all 4removed a couple months ago. my mouth was pretty sore for a week But i got some real good painkillers (Dilaudid) that helped out alot. If you dont get them taking out, you risk all sorts of problems with them growing in wrong and infections.

Me too, my recovery took about 1.5 weeks of total misery, like not being able to eat "real" food most of that time. All I can tell TC is that it will get better

Yes, I was miserable after getting them out too :(

The best thing to do is just wait it out. It really sucks, but there is nothing you can do.

For some reason, I thought it would be smart to not take any of the painkillers they gave me :x

BTW: I got all four removed at the same time.

That's why I still have an almost entirely full bottle of Vicodin sitting on my desk... right here... next to my keyboard... looking at me...

i just got all 4 of mine pulled last thursday, i stayed awake for the operation but got like at least 20 shots of novacaine in my mouth.. i wont lie the part that hurt the worst was the injections of novacaine.. but yea the part i hated the most was the post operation bleeding but it basically clotted and stopped within an hour or so with only 1 of the bottom ones taking the remainder of the day to completely stop.. as far as pain i never really had any so it wasnt that bad i guess, now its just annoying cause the stupid stitches are still in my mouth since they havent dissolved yet

I had two at the end of August this year. I had prepared myself for a horrible experience, but to tell the truth it was nothing. Bleeding was stopped in 30 minutes, and like you I used ice on / off in 15 minute spurts. The worst I felt was an extremely mild ache. And I enjoyed the downtime. Sitting around watching movies and reading for a couple of days was a nice change of pace! I used a grand total of three pain killer pills in the first 2 days; after that, they weren't necessary.

You'll be fine. Just be very careful to avoid agitating the clots in the next couple of days. No sucking, no solid food, no playing around with the clots with your tongue. The people who have the worst experience are the ones who end up with dry sockets, and in most cases, those are the result of not being careful.

Yeah, it's interesting. Depending on the spot, some of the shots don't hurt at all. Others are very obvious. But I'm a huge sissy when it comes to injections, and honestly I didn't find them bad - the taste of the novocaine that dripped out was much more unpleasant than the pain. That stuff is vile. :P

I lost all four a couple of years ago. It wasn't that bad until I ran out of pain pills. I could only eat soup. It took forever for the stitches to dissolve.

The actual experience of it (I pulled out all four at once) wasn't bad at all, but I was allergic to one of the medications I was prescribed...which wasn't fun._en1gma_
Was it loads of work getting them out or did they just pop out?

IF they're Impacted I wouldn't hesitate in getting them removed, they can get infected. You'll probably be sore for a week or two, it's not that bad if you have pain medication ( At Least I don't think it will be bad :P ).

I was put under for it ... I actually had to go to a surgeon to get them removed because they were dangerously close to nerves or something like that ... so I don't remember how the actual operation went. :P

i had all 4 of mine removed at one 2 winters ago. It was a lot less painful then I expected. It was unpleasant, but with the painkillers, it was barely noticeable. The worst thing was not being able to walk properly thanks to the anesthesia or whatever they used to knock me out.

Yeah, Tell me about it :P

I kept asking the same question over and over again, and I walked like I was drunk for a little while. Surprisingly I played Call OF duty rather well that day, better than usual :P. What side effects did you have?

Too bad :P I was awake. They called my teeth "horror examples". When the dentist/surgeon was done, she needed a break and several other dentists came over to look at the ones she had pulled. Being wide awake during the 90 minutes it took to remove them, I couldn't feel anything yet I could speak almost normal. Oh and the worst part was when it tickled.

Mine was close to a nerve too, and after surgery, I lost feeling in my lower left cheek for about a year. The actual surgery wasn't painful or anything. I was awake, but locally anesthetized. It just felt like someone was pulling on dead skin in my mouth or something. The weirdest part was when she had to crack my teeth in half, to keep from cutting up the gums. It felt like someone was cracking walnuts in my mouth or something, though again, not painful.

If you have a small mouth, those teeth don't fit well, and cause problems.

Did you have any dental or health insurance plan that covered that? And what did you end up paying if you don't mind me asking.

[EDIT] These questions can apply to anyone in this topic who have had their wisdom teeth removed.

Well, I don't have wisdom teeth yet, but I did have to remove 4 permanent teeth (sadly, no space available for them) and I don't know if the experience is similar, but it wasn't bad at all. I mean, when the anesthesia wears off you feel pain but nothing unbearable, painkillers solve the problem. Besides, I'm no sadist, but the stitches are kind of funny and you also get to stuff yourself with loads of icecream :D

I did that for years. Then when I finally had the problematic one removed, I wondered why I left it so long. Seriously, it's nothing.

Got my 4 wisdom teeth out last month, I was eating swedish berries 6 hours after surgery. Wasn't bad at all, but it varies a lot from person to person, depending on how your teeth have grown in relation to the nerves in your jaw, and whether or not they are connected to your jaw.

Just make sure you wash your mouth out with that warm water and salt solution otherwise you face painful infections that I encountered due to lack of mouth washing.
