I mean really it's so bad that I would rather watch Independence Day even after seeing it so many times I would still enjoy it far more. The second I saw the trailers my expectations were low but I was like hey why not let's give it a shot. First half n hour was actually pretty good when the invasion happens and no one really knows what's happening. But then you see the aliens and its like wow really this is 2011 and that's the best you can come up with? The CGI really ruined it for me they look so fake. Independence Day was made in the 90s and the aliens still look way more realistic compared to this crap (that's because they didn't use CGI to create the aliens) And you know I really have nothing against CGI, but this was some bad CGI this whole time I could have swore I was watching a Terminator movie...without the kickass action.

And don't even get me started on that Hector kid, so many pointless scenes with him. Remember the first "Alien" movie had the little girl in there; you actually wanted to know her story. In this movie I just wanted that kid to die already, I just couldn't stand another scene where their trying to make us feel sorry for the kid. I mean the world is getting invaded and you're focusing on this one kid and he's father. Seriously who here has the balls to tell me they loved Battle: Los Angeles, after the scene where they're about to see what the alien looks like, and that lady says "I may be able to help, I'm a veterinarian"

Oh and just to save you a good 2 hours, the movie has no ending! That is if you even wanna call that an ending.

Apart from the awful camera shaking I loved this movie, I found it odd though that the 2 little girls disappeared halfway through with no explanation though.

I went in expecting seeing Earth getting invaded by aliens, stuff blowing up, and lots of action....guess what? I wasn't dissapointed at all. I thought it was a good movie.....not going to win any award, but good.

I liked it. i was waiting forever for a movie about infantry against aliens, and inthat regard i was satisfied. left the movie theatre with a huge grin of satisfaction on my face. i mean it had its faults though. like itwas kinda weird that the 2 little girls had no lines whatsoever other than crying/screaming. and ill agree in that some of the dialogue was pretty bad (the "we are fighting for our family, country, ect" speech and the "i need you to be my little marine" said by a stone cold serious and hardened badass shine in my mind the most).

overall, i was satisfied. its a popcorn war movieflick. itsnot meant to have a huge overarching story or deep plot.

As long as your expectations are not too high this film is okay. The complaints mentioned in the thread are completely understandable.

Out of all the movies i've seen in the past year, this was by far the worst, and my expectations we're extremely low before watching it. And for the aliens to have traveled so many light years you would think they had the weapon technology beyond mere rocket powered projectiles and water fusion based weapons.

It was irredeemable. One of the laziest and most amateurish films I've seen in a long time. It was so badly photographed that you couldn't even just enjoy it for the action. You can't see whats going on. The writing is embarrassing. Laughable. And there was the vomit inducing pro-military message too. It might entertain you if you are like 12 and under. I'm just glad I saw it for free.

I thought the movie was pretty bad. It'sthe worst film i've seen thus far this year. The dialogue was horrible, the cinematography was horrible, and the script was horrible. If you haven't seen it yet, skip it.

well it was let down by some CGI, dialogue and useless scenes but it was alright.

they should have either gone with the whole redemption story with the main guy and the civilians or just the all out action...they tried to mix the two and failed.

If you go in expecting a war movie you won't be disappointed. Some of the dialogue is laughable, but overall its not as bad a movie as it was made out to be.

So you sided with the fascists in the movie?!

You sound like you are upset because I didn't like the pro-military msg. I just don't think the marines is something that should be falsely projected as "cool" or like a video game to young kids, easily bought, like it is in Battle: LA. Its irresponsible.

I went in wanting explosions and gun fights with aliens, and I got that in spades. I couldn't have been more pleasently surprised by Battle: LA actually.

CGI is the worst thing to happen to movies. Even special effects from the original Star Wars looks better than many modern movies using cheap CGI techniques.

those lightsabers in the original star wars films looked like neon sticks from the way they were handled. Luke bashing Darth Vader with his lightsaber looks almost campy by today's standards. IF there's one thing the prequels have improved upon, it's the jedi combat scenes. Those were great, especially the Darth Maul one.

The beauty of the original trilogy fights was that they seemed "real." The hacking of Luke in ROTJ showed his rage. All those choreographed "fights" felt mechanical and unrealistic. There was no emotion in them. Even the utterly ridiculous Mustafar fight. Which when I first started learning about Obi-wan and Anakin, I saw as a fight on a bridge over lava, more of words than of action. The prequel trilogy was possibly the worst thing to happen to the movie industry. It gave future directors the freedom to make action movies full of CG and spend no time on developing characters or telling a proper story.

People these days love to hate on things, I guess it makes them feel surperior or something. Seriously, this movie was pegged as an "Independence Day meets Blackhawk Down" movie, and that's exactly what it was. What were people expecting? It had great action scenes, it had aliens invading, it had awesome special effects. Was it cheesy? Yes. Was it a bad movie? Not even close.

While Children of Men was a farily good movie, I wouldn't really consider it a "Sci-Fi" or "Sci-Action" movie. It was more of a character drama set in the near future with some minor adventure and action elements. The movie was strongly focused on Clive Owen's and the pregnant lady and their journey as opposed to the science fiction elements. All that to say, I don't really think it's a fair comparison (at least not to a military science fiction movie about fighting invading aliens).

It gave future directors the freedom to make action movies full of CG and spend no time on developing characters or telling a proper story.

The fights may have been 'more emotional' but I don't think that was due to how they let the actual fighting play out. Jedi are much better when they're seen performing acrobatics and have lightning fast reflexes, I'd say. They should be believable of course, but not to the point where I think 'realism' doesn't give them their due in portraying them. Between people who have the abilities to withhold necessary bodily functions for months or years and Sith who devour entire worlds through the Force, I don't think Luke furiously bashing his glowbat at Darth Vader makes them look fearsome.

I thought the stunts with Darth Maul were seemlessly integrated and felt believable. They flowed naturally and made jedi and sith lightsaber duels look much more deadly than the original gave them credit. If nothing else, these new films have a more satisfying portrayal of the full range of jedi fighting abilities than the originals.

I have never seen a jedi bash another with his lightsaber in the same fashion Luke did to Darth Vader -- that was the exception for me.

Luke and Vader were the first two major developed Jedi in the franchise. :|

I still find Obi-wan Kenobi's fight with Vader to be the most moving encounter in the entire Star Wars universe (although, Darth Treya's encounter in The Sith Lords is up there as well). It showed us how "dead" their "religion" was, that only those two were the last of a dying breed, making way for the new, sterile "Empire."

I KNOW that, but I haven't seen anyone else fight like *that* since then. I also liked KOTOR 2. The Jedi always seem to have problems though; maybe not as much as they did in Kotor 2, but they were almost gone in the original trilogy, targeted by Malak in KOTOR 1 and losing fights badly, with Bastila as their only hope. Now in SWTOR, most planets are STILL under sith control with the jedi fighting on the losing end. They almost ALWAYS seem to be on the losing end.

I skipped it - was about to go see it, then decided to stay home and watch the original War of the Worlds for the 10,000th time.

Still the best alien invasion movie I've ever seen IMO.
