Miami Vice (2006) - Michael Mann

Confusing dialogue, slow pacing, little character or just stereotypes, cliche story.

Really disappointed after the directors previous film, which was excellent.

Who was the director? What was his last movie? Why would you leave those bits of information out of your thread?

Michael Mann has made some really cool movies. Check out Manhunter. It came out way back when, but it's noteworthy because it is the first film that Hannabal Lecter appeared in. Although he is not played by Anthony Hopkins who made Lecter famous, he is played by Brian Cox who is friggin awesome. the move was later remade as Red Dragon.

Memento was AWESOME. Chris Nolan is the man. You know you got skills if you can tell a story backwards better than most directors can forwards.

I liked Collateral, I didn't like Miami Vice at all, only saw the first half of it, didn't want to watch anymore after that. Just wasn't at all enjoyable.

It came out in the eighties and has probably one of THE most detailed planning to execution heists I've ever seen. James Caan has balls the size of Montana in this flick. It is amazing to watch him throw his weight around.

Watching them do the Heists with the Tangerine Dream score in the background is mesmerizing. The dialog is tight with some of the best badass lines from James Caan and the Mafia boss. I'm surprised they haven't remade it yet.

And the scene where he goes to adopt a kid is CLASSIC.

And anybody that goes to a Mafia Capo's house and tells him to his face:

"My money in 24 hours, or you will wear your ass for a hat"

with no sense of fear gets props.

Yeah Miami Vice was a horrible film. Although I wasn't so keen on Collateral, I was more a fan of Mann's earlier works like Manhunter, Last of the Mohicans and Heat...

He's a great director. I didn't even mind Miami Vice that much, though it was definitely his worst film. My favourite is Manhunter, but I also love Heat and Thief. I thought Collateral was very good but deeply flawed. The pacing was slightly off and the ending terrible, but it was a very well photographed film with a great premise.
