...and it was pure garbage. I expected it to at least be some fun, mindless action, but the film was so awfully paced and there was so little time and effort given to introducing the characters that I just couldn't care about what happened to them. There was nothing interesting about any of them. The aliens were barely even introduced, so there was no possible way of being amazed/scared/affected in any way by them. You never once get a good enough look at what they look like. Even worse, the human characters didn't seem surprised or awed or anything that some alien life forms have come to Earth. It was as if they already knew that aliens exist. And there was so much thoughtless, cliched action with very little pacing or proper pausing in between that I began to question whether the film even had a script at all. It's not like there was an actual plot anyway, other than "There's some kind of disruption here BANG BANG BANG BANG oh wait they're aliens BANG BANG BANG BANG I'll never leave you BANG BANG BANG BANG" and on and on like that. And don't get me started on the dialogue, which was so ham-handed and laughable that I chuckled every 10-15 minutes. Just imagine all of that for two hours straight.

Sorry, but I didn't find it to be any kind of Friday night entertainment in any way, shape or form. Dumb fun at its worst.

It wasn't *pure* garbage, it started really strong and was actually touching on some neat themes, then they decided to add drama about half way through and turn some little marine squad into super humans and the whole movie turned to generic crap really fast.

Great special effects can't save a nose-dive like that.

Severely disappointed.

Also I wasn't expecting anything more than a solid action/war movie. So a bad plot was already expected.

Was anyone expecting this to be good? It looked like a knock off of Skyline, which was a knock off of Independence Day.

Aww, I thought it had potential. O well. The only decent alien vs human movie I saw recently was District 9 which was pretty good.

I had the same mindset. I figured it would at the very least be solid, stupid fun and action that requires no thinking at all like 2012, Transformers 1 (NOT 2), 300, etc.

It wasnt jaw dropping but it was a fun movie that I have watched alot of times.

For some reason though that tranny alien peeing on a house creeps me out.

I haven't seen the film, but when you're fighting for survival you're not going to stand there and ponder the questions of the universe. If aliens arrived today and started immediately blowing s*** up, I'd quickly get over the fact that aliens *do* exist and start trying to survive.

Knew it, man why can't there be any good alien invasion movies I mean I havn't seen a good one in years, District 9 was the only alien movie that actually impressed me recently because that was such a uniqe take on the whole alien coming to Earth concept.

I want them to make an Aliene movie like an episode of (forgot the name :( )

Aliens came to meet us and one ship crashed into the moon taking alot of it out..we took it as an act of war and they destroyed every nation that fired on them.

Wish I could remember the name of that series.

Well Avatar is rather unique in the sense that we're the aliens invading the s*** out of some other planet for their resources. Just a shame it's a massive borefest.

I'll admit, the trailer looked awesome, and that's what gave me such high expectations to seeing it. But the action promised in the trailer wasn't even worth watching, since the camera never stopped shaking and the action was always way too unoriginal.

Avatar gets a lot of undeserved hate. Yes, it had a generic plot, but at least the plot didn't try being more than it was: it's generic, we know it, and we're going to make the best out of it. The visual effects and Pandora as a whole were stunning. It's one of the movies I'm glad I watched at the movies, in 3D.

It was an archetypal action flick with no story, what did you expect? It had explosions and fancy effects, anticipating anything more is silly.

I think Avatar is ripped from this www.battleforterra.commagicalclick
Yeah, I have no doubt that Avatar isn't truly unique and original in this respect (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alien_invasion 5th paragraph).

Avatar gets a lot of undeserved hate. Yes, it had a generic plot, but at least the plot didn't try being more than it was: it's generic, we know it, and we're going to make the best out of it. I watched it in IMAX 3D and it was quite the spectacle, but it didn't hold up to repeated viewings. I nearly fell asleep second time watching.

Except this movie doesn't have robo-prostitutes or Transformers heaven, so...
