This is in no way meant to be any sort of racist remark, but its just something that really annoys me.

Why do elderly Russian people seem to be so rude and just plain mean? This is not to say that it is like that for all of them, but, I work at a Supermarket, and have had to deal with many of them. Yelling at me as I try to help them, becoming very upset when I don't understand what they are saying because of their accent. Why is it they are like this?

I have not met that many elderly Russians. I'm not sure that they are rude or mean. Do the Russians you meet all congregate at the supermarket?

Youre generalizing. :| Based on a stereotype as far as i can tell. Ill let you know that there are plenty of friendly russian elders. How do i know? Statistical probability.

Like I said, I'm not saying it is all of them. I actually know a few old Russian customers who shop where I work that are very nice. But there are a majority of them who are just plain rude.

I think the problem is the language barrier. They are frustrated because they don't understand you and you get frustrated because you can't understand them. The circle of frustration just continues to spiral.

I'm sure elderly Chinese people would be just as upset at you for not being able to understand them. Just so happens more elderly Russians visit your market than elderly Chinese. Accents can be hard to understand, but if you actually take the time to listen, it's not so hard. I was a directory assistance operator, and sometimes I would be called over just because I could make out accents others couldn't. Be patient and listen next time.

 agreed You could argue like some "scientists" once did that people who live in cold, northern countries, have a naturally harsh temperament (does that word exist in english?). And some people make the same assumptions about old people. Or it's simply (and most likely) the language barrier thing.
