I was very happy to see this. A clear sign that, yes, our government does in fact work. For a while there I was concerned that the so-called "checks and balances" were just going to roll over and let things happen against the people's will, but it's nice to see that everyone is doing their job, actually acting in the interest of other's and not just themselves, and stopping a potential tyrant from exerting his will.

Things can, in fact, get bad enough before they get too bad. That's awkwardly relieving.

The disappointing thing is this attorney general will be replaced with Sessions, Trump's appointment, very soon, meaning this decision is temporary at best. The people fighting the good fight will need to act fast; get those people out of the airport's detention centers, get the people that need to get into the country into the country, and so forth.

This is far from over, unfortunately. Trump will pound his fists and stomp his feet and continue to act like a King or Emperor instead of a President.

Good. Steve Bannon, oh sorry, I mean Donald Trump needs to take some time to learn our laws before writing more of these things.

Well, no kidding. It's an Obama appointee.

I guess I won't ever really understand so many passionately applauding more and more unskilled people being brought into this country regardless of where they are from. It at least makes sense if the people have technical/science degrees. But unskilled people? We already have an enormous pool of those people struggling because there is no jobs for them. A third of the American population is unemployed! Many unskilled immigrants are going to have to go straight onto the welfare rolls because in addition to there being no opportunities for them there isn't even for those already here. And the situation is going to get much, much worse as manufacturing gets even more automated than it currently is. For those cheering it on because they think doing so is achieving some sort of moral goal I don't think they understand the monster of a problem they're exasperating.

@Wickerman777: A third is unemployed? I assume you include children and the elderly. There are more reasons to allow refugees into the country than the skills they have that can benefit us. You may not understand them though, they involve apealing to human beings better nature.

(1)Nondiscrimination

(A)

Except as specifically provided in paragraph (2) and in sections 1101(a)(27), 1151(b)(2)(A)(i), and 1153 of this title, no person shall receive any preference or priority or be discriminated against in the issuance of an immigrant visa because of the person’s race, sex, nationality, place of birth, or place of residence.

http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2015/10/21/what-we-know-about-the-92-million-americans-who-arent-in-the-labor-force/

People under 16 aren't included in that. And it was just a quick estimate I threw out there, maybe it's 1/4th. The point is a giant shitton is unemployed and it keeps getting worse. And how do you respond? More virtue signaling, lol. Why is it that for those on the left only those on the other side of the globe matter? Screw the people that are already here. There is an enormous problem at the bottom of the job market in this country. That sector of the economy is disappearing yet we continue to get flooded by new people who know how to do only those sorts of jobs. As people at that skill level see their opportunities disappear they are splitting into groups and becoming increasingly resentful of each other. Ignore it to achieve some sort of a moral superiority if you'd like but it will get worse.

I am not a "liberal" nor am I a "conservative". I did not support Hillary and I do not support Trump. That being said, a lot of the people that are being denied were already granted entry to the U.S. They passed the rigorous tests to gain entry to our country. This is exactly the legal immigration Trump supporters were talking up when talking against illegal immigration. America IS immigrants. That's who we are. Denying legal immigrants is so un-American it's ridiculous that you're actually defending it. To make matters worse he's picking and choosing who gets in no real logic to it. It's not every Muslim country and it's none of the countries where terrorists that attacked the US came from. He's one person deciding who gets into our country with no real logic to it. That's insane.

My biggest question is that when this get overturned as illegal, and it should, is it enough grounds for impeachment? I believe it is. Trump is jeopardizing the American way and that's not acceptable.

@Wickerman777: I am very worried about the poor people we already have in this country. That is why I support programs for them and an increased minimum wage. Doesn't seems to me like republicans spend much time worrying about the poor in this country or any other.

Lol, I'm telling you about there not being jobs and you want to talk about minimum wage, lol? Dude, I wasn't saying the jobs didn't pay enough, I said they're nonexistent!!! And we ain't seen nothing yet. People are expecting a robotics revolution that will totally transform manufacturing and that's going to be armageddon for these people. It's bad now, catastrophe is just over the horizon.

Go ahead. Make it 15 an hour and watch those jobs disappear. Shit, lets make it 100 dollars an hour for everybody.

@Wickerman777: I agree that we need more jobs and good paying jobs. You are drastically over exaggerating the unemoyment though. Hell, it may be anecdotal but I don't even know a single unemployed person. People are mostly underemployed. If we are going to move to such an automated society we are going to have to move away from our current version of capitalism. Republicans are pushing for policies that concentrate the wealth into fewer hands. That is not sustainable.

Those jobs are going to be automated anyway. We both know that.

But even beyond that, if your argument is that people should continue to work as their wages shrink in nominal value, you're going to destroy our consumer driven economy. The argument that we should lower wages to compete with the labor out of India and Bangladesh (not to mention automation) is an argument to return to an economy that we simply no longer possess.

How? How is this good in any way? Do you really support the selective banning of legal immigrants based on nothing in particular? Can you really justify that? It's down right un-American. I didn't think you were just a Trump troll before, but now it seems pretty clear that you are.

Yes, let's eliminate any and all resistance.

I'm starting to realize that Trump supporters are not the strong American types I thought they were, the "'merica!" types. They're scared, they're feeble, and they are weak. It finally kind of dawned on my that they are the fragile ones that want to roll over and hand the reins over to someone so much stronger than they are, and damn the costs, because they will sell just about anything for safety and just the smallest sample of the American Dream.

Cowards.

Times change. Slavery changed, segregation changed. Native American abuse changed. Or do you think we should go back to that discrimination too? Please enlighten me as to what discrimination is okay.

I am simply astonished by how little people know about history but are willing to go on rants anyway, lol. Look up the 1965 immigration act, guy. Until that America took in whites from Europe and there were the blacks from Africa that were enslaved and later freed and that was pretty much it. In fact, there was a period in our history when we were taking in no immigrants whatsoever, not even from Europe, that lasted several decades. You had said we never blocked certain immigrants. WRONG! For a couple hundred years if you weren't white you didn't get in.

yes, sending a boat full of 800+ Jews back to Germany to get gassed was definitely American, I am very sad to say. Fortunately, as stated above, times change. Laws change. We learn from our mistakes. Or so I thought...

That was also part of an "America First!" mentality, which is what makes this repeat of history so damn frightening.

I never said we didn't, I said doing so was un-American. Our country has changed. What it means to be American isn't a static thing or else we'd all own slaves and kill native Americans. In the 60's it was okay to discriminate against blacks. Should we go back to doing that? We've done some awful things that most people now agree were unethical. This will be one of those things. What side do you want to be on? Using the past to justify the future isn't the greatest thing to do.

what you are arguing is called "precedent". You are saying "we did it before, why can't we do it again?". It has nothing to do with "being American" (an argument I generally dislike, tbh, but whatever).

In general, modern American ideals are things like freedom, accepting all cultures, stuff like that. Calling immigration standards before 1965 "un-American" is totally spot on even though they were technically American law.

I think you know this, and are being intentionally obtuse; when people make the argument of "American/un-American", they are making an emotional appeal, not a legal argument. Slavery is not "American" despite being part of American history; segregation is very "un-American" despite being legal just a few short decades ago; etc, etc...

Ah yes. All those immigrants that helped build our country were already in America, right?

I am simply astonished by how little people know about history but are willing to go on rants anyway, lol. Look up the 1965 immigration act, guy. Until that America took in whites from Europe and there were the blacks from Africa that were enslaved and later freed and that was pretty much it. In fact, there was a period in our history when we were taking in no immigrants whatsoever, not even Europe, that lasted several decades. You had said we never blocked certain immigrants. WRONG! For a couple hundred years if you weren't white you didn't get in.

There is no going back. But I don't want the left telling me what is American either cuz they don't have a fucking clue.

The left? I'm not part of "the left" but I know damn well that this is wrong and so do most conservatives. Why do you think they've been mostly silent on the issue? Also,t he majority of American's don't support this and don't support Trump. What else do you want to show that it is un-American?

@n64dd: People who work ought not be poor. Companies like MCDonalds and Walmart can certainly afford it. There is no justification for the huge wage gap in this country.

While Wal-Mart could raise wages and should, the vast majority of fast food restaurants are privately owned franchises who may make a 6 figure profit a year if lucky. The owner of Good Foods, Inc. is not a rich man by any means and that is who you really are asking to pay those increased wages for an entry level job.

Just for the record that absolutely was American until it was changed in 1965.

yes, sending a boat full of 800+ Jews back to Germany to get gassed was definitely American, I am very sad to say. Fortunately, as stated above, times change. Laws change. We learn from our mistakes. Or so I thought...

That was also part of an "America First!" mentality (isolationism), which is what makes this repeat of history so damn frightening.

I didn't say that at all! I told you what happened, not what I want to happen. Don't pretend to know. I don't want to deport anyone other than illegals. The diversity we have now can never be undone and nobody is asking for it to be undone. BUT at some point enough is enough. We have enough immigrants, I don't even want them from Europe at this point! There ain't enough jobs to go around anymore to keep up with this. We're transforming into a welfare state. And we have enough diversity. When people agreed to let this diversity thing happen they weren't aware it would eventually be weaponized against them and people would constantly be blaming the evil white male for goddamned everything.

And he fires her because she refuses to defend his ban too. It was going to happen anyway though. Well if staying AG means bowing to lord Trump and pretending like his ethics make sense then his administration isn't worth working for.

Good. Steve Bannon, oh sorry, I mean Donald Trump needs to take some time to learn our laws before writing more of these things.

What specific laws?

(1)Nondiscrimination

(A)

Except as specifically provided in paragraph (2) and in sections 1101(a)(27), 1151(b)(2)(A)(i), and 1153 of this title, no person shall receive any preference or priority or be discriminated against in the issuance of an immigrant visa because of the person’s race, sex, nationality, place of birth, or place of residence.

https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/8/1152

You may want to learn some law before just trying the google approach.

That does not mean the United States can´t put in place rules based on where you come from. Which is why certain places does not need a visa to enter the us while other countries do.

If, it ever goes to court...Pres. Trumps wins hands down. It's not even a close call.

There's no doubt that this won't go to court among other executive orders.
