Justice has been served

Some of you may remember last year's Greatest Game Character poll on Gamespot. For those of you that don't I will just give a short summary: it was rife with cheating, spite-inspired votes, and gross abuse of Valve's standing in the videogames community. It turned into a joke before it was even over and in the end the travesty came to pass and.....Gordon Freeman was declared the winner. It was proven (with actual screenshots) at the time that there were mass amounts of cheating, which was obviously the only way a minor character like the one mentioned above was able to topple giants of game characters like Solid Snake, Link, and Mario.

Well, a similar poll just ended on GameFaqs and the winner was Link, a very deserving, even if somewhat predictable, outcome. Perhaps due to the low caliber of the poll there, no cheating (that I heard/read of anyway) occurred. Gordon Freeman was eliminated in one of the very early rounds by Tifa, which much more accurately reflects his standing in the videogame community. It took a whole year (take or leave a few months), but in the end justice prevailed. As far as I am concerned though, Gamespot's reputation (for allowing such an injustice to occur) as a credible videogame media greatly suffered and has yet to recover.

People actually care about those stupid contest? I don't know what is more sad, the fact that this thread was even made, the fact that these contest exist or the fact that people will actually cheat and make a big deal out of them:roll:

Isn't the gamefaqs suppossed to be filled with Nintendo fanboys? Either way, it's just a poll. Besides, the Steam community got that sale due to Gordon winning? Last time I checked that never happened with other developers/companies.

These contests are supposed to be just for fun. They don't have any actual bearing on the real world. Yeah, the competition at GS was terrible with too much cheating, but it really doesn't matter at all in the long run.

There can be no "best" character... it is all merely an opinion, and as a result, a popularity contest. You TC have your opinion to the "deserving" character, while others have different ideas about who "should" be the winner. Unless you can provide an analysis of all the elements of all the characters and do it in an objective fashion, that in no way reflects your actual feelings, then that would be the only way to "prove" which character is the "best". But good luck trying to do that.

Anyone who saw the Master Chief vs those two dragons knows there was cheating. That website we cannot name got involved and ruined it. I was angry that they did that but I couldn't care ten minutes later.Ugalde-
