I think Karl is genuine but Ricky and Steve are milking it now. The first series of An Idiot Abroad was good but I have a feeling the new, second series will be generic and make everyone feel like they have 'been there done that'. We all know that Ricky and Steve will send Karl to random places and he will moan about stuff.
He isn't that empty headed, he can speak a handful of languages I believe.. sSubZerOo
Where did you hear that? There's noway it's the same Karl Pilkington, he speaks two languages... English and Manc

... we're talking about the guy from the show "An Idiot Abroad", correct?
I don't believe that dude can speak multiple languages. He can barely tolerate anything outside of his little corner of England.
He is a genius. He's just hilarious bad at articulation. I like him because I always instantly know what he's trying to say and I've usually thought the exact same thing at some time or another.

Yeah, it's funny. I didn't think he was stupid at all. He's childlike at times and his view of things isn't colored by experience, but he was extremely quick at assessing a new situation and putting it down into his own words.
I can't say he's a genius, but he wasn't really an idiot.
I just think he's a below average working class bloke from Manchester, and someone who I could get along with

A big part of his 'image' has a surprisingly large amount to do with Ricky Gervais' leading questions and willful misunderstandings, I've not watched An Idiot Abroad yet so I don't know if it's quite the same, but if Karl was left to just whitter on then he'd actually make an awful lot of sense. He's incredibly adept at being concise, I think, which means Gervais can - hrm I don't know - see the 'serious' point and instantly put a comedy spin on it. It's strange. Very subtle language games in any case.
wellp im pretty sure his persona in the podcasts is an exagerated version of himself, so he's basically just doing a character for the show as i see it. so i think he's a genius because he's in on the joke, but he's doing a great job of fooling everyone.
it really depends on if he's faking it or not. either way it's funny to me.
