I'm not familiar with these two services, so is one better than the other or must I use both of them? What's the difference between KAV and KIS?

One probably focuses on the internet as well (spyware, malware, etc.).

My point of making this thread, are for those users that use KAV and/or KIS, so I get a solid foundation on my pick.

Yeah. I would recommend that too. Avast for example.

Is Avast really good enough? I've been a bit picky, and I just want to make sure my new PC suffers no damage.

If you have one, you don't need the other. The latter simply covers more issues and the like but if you're smart and don't pirate and search for porn 24/7, the former will more than suffice.

I wouldn't bother with Mcaffee. If you want to pay then F-Secure is the best for personal use (not sure on enterprise features), Avira is supposed to be the best free AV (beats 99% of the paid ones) though personally i like the combination of Avast and Threatfire.

I would choose Kaspersky over Mcafee simply because it can get rid of the google redirect virus. Most anti-virus programs can't.

KIS has some extra things. Firewall and other proactive protection like that. Pretty sure they have a comparison on the website. I have KAV, I like it. I'd just get Microsoft Security Essentials though, it's free.

I have Kaspersky AV and it does the job well. Non-intrusive.

Avira > Avast > Something Else > Kaspersky Internet Security > Panda

Avira is a better anti-virus program but it it is a little annoying to use and because of that I would go with Avast. It is simple to use and really clean to look at. As long as you're not looking at pronz 24/7 you should be fine with Avast.

Get neither, Kaspersky is a horrible program that significantly reduces the speed of your processor. I suggest a free Antivirus solution like Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials. Why pay for something you can get for free?

I have to say both Kaspersky and Mcafee are complete crap, having had experience with both on one computer.

I don't know, I guess you could get ESET anti-virus or something.

Whoa, this is the first time that I have heard that Kaspersky is crap. I was always told that it is up there along with ESET.
