I like Cate Blanchett a lot, but I honestly can't compare the two since I've not seen many of Kate Winslet's films. I saw Titanic a long ass time ago, and then I saw Heavenly Creatures. Which I don't think really counts, since Winslet was barely more than a child and it was one of her first major acting roles. And as far as I know, those are the only two movies I've seen Kate Winslet in.
So I like Cate Blanchett more. But it's not really fair for me to vote. So I didn't.
In all honestly, Cate Blanchett doesn't really compare to Kate Winslet. I guess I'm saying this because Kate Winslet is my favorite actress. Her work in Little Children is beyond brilliant.

She's a great actress, but I just don't think she's nearly as good as Kate Winslet.
Very tough call. As actors, they're both excellent. I just happen to prefer a lot of Winslet's movie choices over Blanchett's. Eternal Sunshine and Quills are among my favorite movies.
I do like Kate Winslet, but I think Cate Blanchett far exceeds her as an actress. For me, Cate seems to have the perfect balance of emotional depth and skill whereas Winslet has incredible emotional depth but always relies on the same skills to portray those emotions. I'm always blown away by Cate's performances. She employs her entire self-body, mind & soul to become the characters where Winslet simply maintains the same characterization throughout. I liked Winslet in Eternal Sunshine but Cate floored me in Elizabeth. Such a complex nuanced role and powerful performance and is one which stands with Streep's Sophie's Choice as the two best female performances I've ever seen onscreen! Cate the Great is in a word - phenomenal!!

Probably because someone saw it while checking the past topics and saw it. Better than starting up another similar topic.
As for my choice I would have to go with Cate Blanchett. I like both actors and consider the two as the best in their craft this generation, but looking at Cate's body of work I've seen her handle tougher roles.
Kate Winslet. Both are talented, but to me Kate seems like she is a much more capable actress. Her "breakout" performance in Peter Jackson's "Heavenly Creatures" really impressed the hell out of me.
