My neighbors keep letting their cats and dogs out of their houses, and then they come over to my house. They fight on my lawn with my pets and they go through my trash, making a mess.

What I did was violently kick the animals, and that seemed to stop them from coming onto property. But now my neighbors are threatening to call the cops, so I can't do that anymore, and the animals are starting to come back. So what do I do about this?

Inform them of what the cops will say about leash laws when they threaten to call the cops again.

Uh.. first of all the absolute stupidest thing you could do is to assault and harm their animals. You can now face animal cruelty charges, which I hope they do charge you with, that's absolutely disgusting.

Build a fence. Electric if you are really trying to send a message.

(That was a joke..I highly don't recommend an electric)

Mines, that should get the message through to them. In all seriousness though build a fence or talk to your neighbours. Although I have heard a story of someone that set up mines to keep squirrels off their property...

Depending on where you live there should be a leash law. I know there's one in NY.

You're most likely joking, but I just want to say that kicking an animal is just low. Unless it's in self defense, of course.

And the fact that people are giving you advice and disregarding the kicking them part is quite sickening.

If you lived in the country.. I'd say buy a chicken. Tie it up in your yard. When the animals come, feign that they threatened your livestock.

Question: are the animals in question wearing identification tags? Is there ANYTHING on the animals to indicate that it's not feral or a stray?

If not, then there's your answer. Catch it, take it to the animal shelter. Then it'll either be adopted by a new owner, or given a lethal injection within a few weeks. Either way, you won't have to deal with the animal any more.

Of course, this only applies if the animal is wearing no identification, or no kind of collars that indicate that it's someone's pet.

While that was admittedly the wrong thing to do, I very much doubt that anyone can prove that he kicked the animals. All he has to do is deny that he ever kicked them.
