Human population control...
The one really good reason to legalize marijuana.
And war use to control the population but since we are no longer bombing the crap out of cities war is no longer good enough.

Marijuana has never had a single death attributed to it, whereas aclohol and tobacco account for thousands each year. We alreayd have the most effective forms of chemical population control, if that's how you want to think of them, legalized for recreational use.
Yes, the overpopulation that the world faces right now is due to the sufficient food supplies, the ease of living, and the lack of major wars. It will only be a matter of time before these "ethical" politicians and leaders are forced to do what is necessary.LiftedHeadshot
That's only true if you look at population control in the sense that we're going to screw as much as possible and the only limit on our population will be imposed on us. Really, across the world, the number one reason for overpopulation is that people won't stop screwing. There are many places in the world where the average number of children per couple is above seven or eight, which is absolutely insane. Here in the U.S. it's about three I believe. The reason they do this is twofold. The first part is cultural, in some African societies for example it's a status symbol for a woman to raise a lot of kids. Many people in regions like that have been warned about population growth and refuse to do anything to curb it. Two is a mentality that the more kids you have the more likely one of them will move up in life, and also an agrarian need for extra hands. Not that it wouldn't eventually get to a point where feeding kids was more costly than the bonus they bring when they're of working age, but the mentality is to have as many children as one can afford to feed which is still usually more than it should be in concerns to overpopulation.
So basically, in terms of growth, there are many areas that are doing just fine, but the worst areas are that way due to ways of thiking that promote growth. It's also not a problem in some places, such as the U.S. and many European countries. When you compare those countries to smaller ones such as Bangladesh or Japan you can see that overpopulation in the former is really not that bad at all, resources aren't even beginning to strain.
In terms of natural resources, though, yes, industrialized countries are going through them at an insanely fast pace. In the U.S. we've basically encroached on every habitat imaginable, from praries to wetlands to forests and more, and we're destroying habitats to support expansion that really should be unnecessary if we would learn to live with a little more caution and control.
