Haven't found any threads about this so I thought I'd make one. My expectations were low and it totally blew me away! It had action, comedy, drama, and the hottest girlfriend ever: Lyndsy Fonseca! (wayyyyyy hotter than megan fox in this movie).

What did you (OT) think of Kick-A$$?

It was pretty great, I'm thinking about investing in the comic book.

Thinking of going to the theater to see it, but I'll most likely just end up watching it on DVD.

I haven't seen it, but does it sort of remind anyone of Watchmen? Just from the commercials I get a feeling it's similar, but only because there aren't many R rated super hero movies.

I wouldn't say Kick-Ass is entirely a comical film. Calling it a comedy just isn't right. It's an action/adventure film more than anything. Watchmen is a grim movie, whereas Kick-ass is much more energetic.

Yea but I couldn't stop laughing throughout the movie. As much as I liked watchmen I enjoyed kick-ass much more even though it's really unconventional for a superhero movie.

The movie as a whole was a mix of many genres, It's hard to put one label on it, but the biggest was probably comedy. Personally, I can't wait for the sequel! There better be one lol

I think the biggest was action/adventure. That's also what Rottentomatoes labels the film. As for a sequel...
I'm guessing Red Mist would come back as a villain? I thought the ending of Kick-Ass pretty much gave away that if they're gonna have a sequel at all, Red Mist would be a big part in the next film.
I'm no expert and I could be wrong but I think the movie was based on an actual comic not sure how much of it they wrote, so maybe no sequel.

Haven't found any threads about this so I thought I'd make one.

-RocBoys9489-

You sure about that? I remember posting in numerous Kick Ass threads here in OT. Nevertheless, I agree, Kick Ass is a brilliant film. I was very pleasantly surprised after I came out of the cinema, having gone in knowing very little about the film. Many here in OT swept it aside, however, saying that the trailers made it look stupid. One even likened it to Napoleon Dynamite, depicting just how misinformed the naysayers are. Their loss, I say, their loss. They have my condolences.
I LOVED Red Mist as a character, walking into the movie i thought he was going to be a sidekick or something and betray his crimelord father, but the more i watched the more i learned he was actually evil and when he shot hitgirl i was like WHAAAAAT
Yes, the movie was based entirely off of a comic book series of the same name. Both the director of the film and the creator of the comics worked pretty closely to make them both very similar to one another. I

nteresting tidbit, Kick-Ass was originally pitched to Hollywood to be a movie (This was before the comics ever came to picture); but the creator, Mark Miller, kept getting turned down... Eventually he found a filmmaker, Matthew Vaughn, that was willing to make the film independently, which ultimately became the film that it is today. As the film was being made, Mark Miller went off to make the comics... So, in reality, both the movie and the comics were being made at the same time, and both people were working together to make them as similar as possible.

new costume and mask sitting in his father's chair.

As for my thoughts on the sequel...
The end of the movie made me realize that it was parodying the first spiderman so much! Especially how red mist's dad died, except it was a rocket and not the goblin glider! and remember when kick-a** was in his room and his dad walks in and says "you look different?" LOL So if I had to guess, the sequel will probably follow Spiderman 2 in some ways.
Good, not great in my opinion. Fun with interesting characters and good performances but I was ultimately disappointed that is deviated away from the story in the comic towards the end and made changes that I felt were not needed and worked better in the comic. Probablya film I will enjoy and appreciate more a second time around.

Another comic book film. It becomes exactly what it tries to parody. Some of it was funny, some of it was just idiotic. Too flashy to having anything mature to say about vigilantes.

Isn't it odd that the people who don't want to watch the film have a misconception about it as well? At least this isn't as bad as the guy who likened Kick Ass to Napoleon Dynamite without having seen the film.
