the kind of crap i see on kids TV appals me, not because it is not kiddy enough, but because it is just junk. In kids TV shows these days, kids are taught that life is happy, joyous, and full of light. Parents are sitting kids in front of TVs, numbing their brains to the truth, the world is a violent place full of crime, murder, rape etc. Now I am not saying that kids need to be exposed to that, but they should at least be aware that the world is not all fun and games. Back when I was younger we had great kids TV that can be enjoyed anytime,

the 90s were a very happy time for me and my friends. We watched shows like Freakazoid, angry beavers, are you afraid of the dark ( a very dark show) and rockos modern life. Now when I watch them again I enjoy them because of the subtle jokes that I didnt get back when I was younger, which si why those shows are classic, you watch them as a kid, you enjoy the,, you watch them when you are older, you laugh at the things you didnt get before. my favorite show as a kid was a british TV show called animals of farthing wood ( anyone who knows that show is officially awesome) it was a typical show where animals had adventures in a  cartoon world. But it was about survival too, animals died, there was blood, a fox ripped another animals throat, a mouse was speared on a thorn by  a bird showing blood, a hedgehog was hit by a truck etc. It didnt glorify nature, it showed how survival si key, not dancing and sunshine. It entertained me and taught me a lot about life.

Kids get sick all the time in America and I'm pretty damn sure that's not natural. I think it's because so many of them grow up in sterile houses that they have no immune systems. That kind of thing, kind of poetic I guess or something....STOP GETTINGS SICK, AMERICA!

So what do you want kids to be watching? Like Rocko's Modern Life made you realize how the world was...? look, kids watch crap. They have terrible taste. They are not concerned at all with reality nor should they be. They are children.

did I say rockos modern life made me realize how the world was:| I used it as an example of TV that isnt totally kiddy, I can watch it and still fidn it funny. I am not saying we should expose kids to violence and sex early, but they should be eased into it a bit. Keeping them away and protecting them will just make them naive.

So make them miserable when they're young as well? I think they should gradually learn these things as they age, not hit them when they're 6.

Yes they are to protected. I saw a little kid watching a show a bout a little bald boy who's biggest problem was that he couldn't tie a shoe or something like that. and his cat and teddy bear talked and came a live or sumthin. I guess the government is trying to make the next generation peaceful. But what they don't understand is that not all people watch those shows, so when those kids get older and people that didn't watch those shows do bad things (assuming it is in the future where there was a peaceful generation as I had previously stated) everyone else will be weak. Armies will decline and the U.S.A. will fall. I mean how hard is it to cross the street man. You don't need to stop, look, and listen and hold an adults hand! I mean if you see a car barreling down a street you dont go I mean that's common sense but if there isn't just run! See that wasn't that hard. I remember last summer me and my bros and neibors were at some people's front yard who moved ina cross the street from us. There parents were talkin to my parents in my front yard. But, the people that just moved in had a 2 year old and a 4 year old. The two year old was a little girl who wanted to cross the street to go see her parents. So her mom asked me! Me! If i could HOLD her had to cross the street. WTF! I go over and her mom asks her  if shge knows my name and says that i am her Boyfriend! WTF! And she has to know my name if she wants to write letters to me! I was shocked and had to do it all over agian to take her back over. The two year old was tiny, fat girl who  so pale that she was like a gray transparent color!

Then the next day they come over a gain me my bros and neibors are over. But this time! The little girl comes over in a simsuit that her belly was bursting out of and is trying to show it off to me! Ha! That is how bad kids minds are poisoned! I'm in high school and she is in nothing. WTF! But i got revenge later when i scared her to hell by putting ona  rat mask and running ona ll fours at her. She fell over and started cryng to her mom. I also put a towel on my head and she thought i was a ghost. I threw a rubber turtle at here and she thought it was a monster. Me and my bros and neibors were laughing like crazy. Thak goodness they moved!

Now listen to this. This is how stupid those programs makes those kids. We made her thinka fairy lived ina  light house. We would tell her to put grass in front of it tell her to look away throw away the grass look back and she would be amazed and think that a fiary ate it! She is so pathetic. She cried cause no one would carry her even though she could walk wait no she waddled. Just to show how stupid they are these days.

Kids' entertainment now of days are having babyishness to the max, and you can obviously see the difference of kiddiness compared from back during the early 90's to today...today it's so kiddy that if I watch it a single second, I pass out.  Kids definitely need to be more aware about what the world is really like, and it's not all that "Barney playground time!!"

I dont think you guys get what I am saying, I am not saying that kids should watch south park at age 6, all I am saying is that they should be eased into lifes realitys gradually, not protected and all the time and made tot hink everything is happy. Kids should learn to appreciate what they have, some parents just give their kids all they want in life, which is ok for some, but spoil them and numb them and they wont know what hit them when they leave the comfort of their parents.

Most parents want a childs life to be the best it can be, but that doesnt mena they have to be spoiled with whatever they want. If
that happens you might end up with a spoiled, ungrateful kid who thinks he or she will get what tehy want if they whine enough.

Suddenly kids watching children shows makes them grow up spoiled and ungrateful?

I did not say you did... as you said you weren't suggesting they should. I believe the "happy happy joy joy" shows of today for kids are at least somewhat necessary and took the reversal of it to an admitted extreme.

I hated the first couple seasons of rockos modern life. It was just about a honest working guy getting repeatedly screwed over, and kids are suppose to laugh at his misery?

The later seasons were much better and fun to watch.

again, i did not say giving your child a good life spoils them, I said that giving them all they want spoils them.

Animals of Farthing Wood was ****ing twisted! I still loved it though - I had it on video ^_^ Although they did kind of lose it a bit when the animals actually managed to make it to the nature reserve, or wherever they were trying to get to, but the producers were still determined to suck the idea dry. Bleh. The original ones were amazing though. Despite how horribly depressing it was!

Kids TV does mostly suck now. You get the odd good thing, but most of it is just stupid. I think I'm going to have to hunt down all the old shows I used to love, and force my children to grow up watching those instead =P

I watched cool stuff like Blood Sport, the Terminator movies, Ren and Stimpy, and the Simpsons when I was a kid.

And look at me now.

Let kids be kids, parents are only concerned about their welfare and they have every reason to be. It's the parents responsibility to ensure what their kids can watch or can't watch on television. To much violence on television can de-sensitise them from an early age. That's why you also have school for that, parents and teachers working together to ensure they grow up to become respectable adults in society.

[QUOTE="Film-Guy"]I dont think you guys get what I am saying, I am not saying that kids should watch south park at age 6, all I am saying is that they should be eased into lifes realitys gradually, not protected and all the time and made tot hink everything is happy. Kids should learn to appreciate what they have, some parents just give their kids all they want in life, which is ok for some, but spoil them and numb them and they wont know what hit them when they leave the comfort of their parents.Film-Guy

A parent wants their child's life to be the best it can be..

I didnt say it did, you must have missread my post, I was saying that parents giving kids all they want without worrying how much
they are getting spoiled is a bad thing.

It seemed like you were referring to your original post. Well, parents' giving their children what they want when they are a kid to give them a good life is something I don't see a problem with. It's the parents' responsibility to teach their kids about what it takes to get what they want in life- and not just giving them what they want without discipline. So I guess you are right, there.

It's not the smoking ads that are a major concern, it's the news coverage depicting violence on a daily basis. Parents should limit the number of hours their kids are exposed to television.

Or limit the channels they are allowed to watch. Which can be done with most TVs these days.

Parents need to stop bending over backwards to appease their children.

Everyone hear this?
Stop being a coward.

Beat your children. They probably deserve it.
