Lady Knocks Pope Benedict XVI down, Cardinal Etchegaray breaks hip

Well, this story says it all. On Christmas Eve, when Pope Benedict XVI was processing in for Mass, a mentally unstable woman jumped the barricade and ran up behind him, grabbing his cape. The Pope fell but is uninjured. Unfortunately 87 year old Cardinal Roger Etchegaray fell and broke his hip.

The Vatican has decided to Pardon Susanna Maiolo, who "attacked" the Pope. She tried the same thing last Christmas Eve but was tackled by Swiss Guards before she could reach the Pope (and she was wearing the same red hooded sweatshirt besides!).

Your thoughts?

I guess it's not her fault, she is a bit crazy. Prime Minister Berlusconi was also assaulted a few weeks ago (someone bashed him in the face with a statue of a Milan Cathedral, he broke his nose).

The security is definitely questionable. I actually watched a bit of the Mass on Thursday, and he had about 12 or so people (both guards and clergymen) surrounding him when he was walking towards the alter. You'd never think anyone unauthorised could actually reach the Pope... just imagine if she had a weapon too... :|michaelP4
