I've always used a Desktop, but im thinkin about getting was of those tiny laptops to see what its like..
I use both.
I have a desktop for gaming or more intensive tasks like ripping and encoding.
I have a laptop for travel or surfing the web and checking emails while lounging around the house.
Probably sounds expensive, but I build my own desktops and buy cheap laptops. My current desktop was around $800 and my laptop is a refurbished IBM Thinkpad I picked up for around $300.
Desktop, it's far more powerful than a laptop. tofu-lion91
And cheaper. A lot cheaper then a laptop of equivalent technology anyhow.

Gaming Pc, Macbook for everything else :) All i have on my Pc is games, no accounts no downloads, nothing.

Ah thanks ;)
Laptop
I'm strictly a console-only gamer and we only need a PC in my house for surfin' da web/checking email, loading pics & vids, and some very lite MS Office use. Thus, a desktop holds no advantages for us. And we (especially my wife) use the portability of our laptop to carry around the house often.
In fact, I'll probably never own a desktop again. I bought my first laptop in '04 and haven't considered a desktop since then.
EDIT: Actually, I'll most likely buy a desktop for my daughter when she's old enough to use it.

One of my ex's has one and they're pretty slow, they're not meant for lots of stuff on it like MSN and that, just word processing and such.
I'm more of a desktop user, I swapped my laptop with my mum's desktop.
Because my laptop is such a beast it actually plays some games better than my desktop. My desktop has a better video card and my laptop has more RAM. World of Warcraft therefore plays better on my laptop and Fallout 3 plays better on my desktop. If you are truing to game, than you definantly need a desktop.

Laptop. I'm not really a gamer nor do I do any video editing and the like so I don't really need the extra specs afforded to me by a desktop (self-built) of comparable cost to my laptop. It is sufficiently powerful enough for my needs/portable enough not to be a pain (a 13" Unibody MBP). Besides, I'm on campus more often than not and like having access to my own computer.
