Laundry Scared Me. Gross.

So I went to do the laundry, and the lights were off. There's a window in the laundry room, so there was enough light to see stuff. Unfortunately, it was getting dark and there wasn't enough light to clearly make out things in detail.

So I walked up the the machine and saw that it was already filled with water. Then I noticed something floating in the water. I thought to myself "Oh. That looks like a piece of cloth/lint that was probably left behind". So I pick it out of the water, but it doesn't feel like cloth to me. So I drop it back into the water and go turn on the light.

I returned to the washing machine to find a dead mouse at the bottom of the machine...

Oh no!! Why do mice always find their way into things filled with water? I mean, I've seen mice in pails of water. . . but how would they go about climbing a verticle pail?

Did you leave the lid to the machine open, or did it find another way in?
