Do you have any funny/scary learning to drive stories?

My dad yelled at me a few times for running the occasional red(miscommunication), or driving too close to something too fast, but for the most part nothing too crazy. After the 6th or 7th "driving lesson" he started taking naps while I drove around.

Aside from taking corners too fast and nearly hitting cars when parking for the first couple of times, nothing too crazy springs tom mind. I learned how to drive well pretty fast.

l still can't get behind the wheel unless it is an absolute emergency - nearly killed myself and my dad about 10 years ago. Stupid I know, but still traumatizing.

I don't have any stories. I'm not sure where people get this "learning to drive" thing. I just got in the car and drove. There was nothing to learn...

The first time I ever was behind the wheel of a car was a few years ago. For some reason our car was on the lawn, and my parents told me I could back it up and put it into the driveway. Needless to say, it was a disaster. I ended up in my neighbors' yard. I hit one of their cars.

How?! I don't get how that's even physically possible! If my child did that, I would immediately give them up for adoption. I'd be so ashamed.

I decided to take a driving test, and the instructer was in the passenger seat beside me. He was giving me all these obvious tips that even a two year old would know. We were driving along the road anyway when he suddenly shouts out "Look out, there's an old woman crossing in the middle of the road!" , to which I replied "No there isn't."

He failed me for being pedantic.

After that I just taught myself how to drive.

It was probably anxiety more than anything, my friend did the same thing, twice, some people just have some anxiety when they first get behind the wheel...

I don't have any personal stories, but I know someone who was going through a Drive-thru while they were learning and hit the gas on accident and hit the building.

Here is a summary of my learning experiences.

Everytime I did not put pressure on the brake when my Dad thought I should have he would start stomping on the passenger side floor board trying to hit an imaginary brake.

Almost rolled my Dads '94 F150.

Stalling out on every frickin intersection (the reason I hate manual transmissions)

Nearly burning out the clutch.

My dads mannerisms everytime I merged onto the highway. Such as holding onto the handle above the door as if his life depended on it.

Well, it isn't necessarily everyone else's passion, so not everyone shares your extreme sentiments.

I'm not going to go off myself just because I had a bad driving experience. I'm not proud of it, but I don't care anymore. I've moved on.

Ha, I still do that when my sister is behind the wheel, and she's been driving longer than I have. It's well warranted, though.

I wouldn't mind it if my kid didn't share my views. That's fine. But to crash into something the first time they drove... or ever... It would really hurt.

If they fail the test, the consequence would be simple. I'm not helping them with buying a car.

I picked it up in a few seconds, no problems with the actual driving itself. Although I did stupid non-operational stuff like killing the battery by leaving the headlights on, and locking my keys in the car a few times.

Learning how to drive a stickshift... different story. I had to completely relearn how to drive, except this time it was difficult for some reason. Initially I stalled the vehicle every time I put the damn vehicle into first. I also rode the brand new clutch a lot, destroying it within a hundred miles. :D

I'm a nut about not screwing up. I was turning out of walmart, and a guy in a 'pedo' van is following me down the hill, and he honks like there's no tomorrow. My mom kept saying "you're not doing anything wrong just ignore it" but he was being such a jerk, swerving, honking, trying to rattle me. My mom made me pull off into a side road and by that time I just had to pull over and cry, I was so freaked out. Aggressive jerks just upset me.

Once when I was first learning, I was going up this windy step hill that came up right after a main road, so I was in third gear going up so I tried shifting to second without giving it enough gas and I did some wheel spins, then stalled.:(

I've turned the car off when it was in drive before.
