Left hand - rude?

I want to know more about this, can anybody please tell me why is it considered disrespectul and rude to shake with your left hand instead of your right hand. I am still unaware of the answer :?

Something like, at least in certain cultures, it's customary to wipe your ass with your left hand, so shaking someone's hand with your left hand would then be rude. at least that's what I've heard.

Been doing alot of Physics lately.

I use my right hand to wipe my ass, pick my nose, wank hold over my mouth when I cough or sneeze. I use my left hand to hold the telephone. I would never, however, use my left to shake someone's hand. That's just rude.

It's great when you realize that you screwed up which hand to use but also screwed up the sign of the charge you were working with so it ended up being right again :P

I think it's weird. Usually people shake with their right hand. When someone throws out there left hand, I'm all, "Dude! What the hell you be doin'?" And they're all, "What? If you don't like how I shake hands, there's the door!"ShaineTheNerd

I dont know about hand shakes but in japan apparently it is more polite to hold your right hand with your left hand when standing as a sign to show that you are not about to draw a sword and attack you. (assuming that you are right handed)

I don't think it's rude but it's odd because most people are right handed.

Isn't it just that the majority of people is right handed, hence feeling more comfortable shaking the right hand? Shaking hands is a symbol of welcoming and agreement. Forcing someone into the slightly uncomfortable act of doing it with the left hand goes against that meaning, so it is considered rude.Reptylus

Since most people are right handed, I believe the idea is that we lefties have to conform to their hand gestures. :evil:

Society is not logical, shaking with your right hand should be considered rude. Most people (as most are right handed) do things with their right hand , from masturbating wiping, opening doors, blowing their nose, scratching any itches near the nether regions, pushing elevator buttons... the list goes on. The right hand seems like it would be much dirtier than the left.

It is complete rude because the majority of people are right handed and therefore use their right hand to interact with the rest of the world. Their left hand is for personal reasons i.e. itching the nose or mouth.
