I want to know more about this, can anybody please tell me why is it considered disrespectul and rude to shake with your left hand instead of your right hand. I am still unaware of the answer :?

In many cultures, people don't use toilet paper. They wipe their ass with their left hand and a bucket of water.

It's not? If I'm eating, sick, or just don't want to touch someone's hand I just tell them to touch my wenis with their wenis.

Something like, at least in certain cultures, it's customary to wipe your ass with your left hand, so shaking someone's hand with your left hand would then be rude. at least that's what I've heard.

If I remember reading originally people would shake below the brachioradialis muscle, but slightly above the wrist flexor as a means to prevent sickness and disease.

We through that out the window I guess over the years.

No one would get offended, only an idiot would get offended by a foreign not knowing the customary norms.

I really hope Japan doesn't blog in rage every time a foreign leader meets their prime minister/president and doesn't bow correctly.

I use my right hand to wipe my ass, pick my nose, wank hold over my mouth when I cough or sneeze. I use my left hand to hold the telephone. I would never, however, use my left to shake someone's hand. That's just rude.

you could always wash your hands afterwards. using water results in a way cleaner ass and leaves no smell. once you use it, you'll never get back to toilet papers.

The thing is, civilized parts of the world weren't always civilized. Toilet paper is still a relatively new invention regardless of what part of the world you come from. We don't wipe our asses with our bare hands NOW, but there was a time when that was common and the tradition just stuck.

Another thing to consider is in some countries they actually have hoses next to the toilet so you can spray yourself without directly touching yourself there. I saw those in both Japan and in Iraq.

In some cultures, the left hand is used for touching dirty things. So using the "cleaner" right hand to shake the other person's hand is a sign of respect.

It's great when you realize that you screwed up which hand to use but also screwed up the sign of the charge you were working with so it ended up being right again :P

I think it's weird. Usually people shake with their right hand. When someone throws out there left hand, I'm all, "Dude! What the hell you be doin'?" And they're all, "What? If you don't like how I shake hands, there's the door!"

I dont know about hand shakes but in japan apparently it is more polite to hold your right hand with your left hand when standing as a sign to show that you are not about to draw a sword and attack you. (assuming that you are right handed)

Isn't it just that the majority of people is right handed, hence feeling more comfortable shaking the right hand? Shaking hands is a symbol of welcoming and agreement. Forcing someone into the slightly uncomfortable act of doing it with the left hand goes against that meaning, so it is considered rude.

Technically yes, but the ass hand is still a factor. The whole reason why the left hand is the ass hand is because most people are right-handed. It's certainly likely that extending the left hand would still be rude even if it hadn't been designated as the ass hand.

Society is not logical, shaking with your right hand should be considered rude. Most people (as most are right handed) do things with their right hand , from masturbating wiping, opening doors, blowing their nose, scratching any itches near the nether regions, pushing elevator buttons... the list goes on. The right hand seems like it would be much dirtier than the left.

It is complete rude because the majority of people are right handed and therefore use their right hand to interact with the rest of the world. Their left hand is for personal reasons i.e. itching the nose or mouth.

I really did not realize I was supposed to use my hand for scratching my nose and all that. I kinda feel like a jerk now. I was never taught to use my hand for that stuff. Probably because I'm from a little hick town and no one gives a darn.
