[QUOTE="SmashBrosLegend"]I'm for the legalization of drugs. People are going to use drugs, whether they're legal or not. I don't think the government should have the right to tell us what we should put in our bodies. If some moron wants to kill himself with heroin, it's his own stupid fault. The point is, there's a lot of time, money, and manpower spent trying to stop drugs that could be used for more important things. Also, the government could regulate and tax the hell out of drugs. People would buy them, and it would provide legitimate jobs to many impoverished South American countries.Myrkan
You make a good point, but by legalizing them we are also making it easier for junkies to acquire them, therefore killing their body faster while the government makes more money. I understand people will do them anyway, but there are ways to save them. And if its legal, everyone will feel like they dont need to intervene.
It's not the government's job to save a person from themself. We already have the facilities setup for people who want help. Making it legal also means that "junkies" are less likely to develop such a bad habit. The logic being that better regulated drugs, more ability to study the effects, and less people slinking to bad parts of town and dealing with people who only care about making a buck means that the cases will be less severe and more easily treated.
Look at the instances of alcoholism in comparison to the amount of people who imbibe once a year or more. The majority of society can handle it and those that can't are more likely to get help now than a heroine addict. Intervention and legality aren't related. In fact, the stigma of someone using an illegal substance makes it more likely that an enabler will continue to enable so as to not have a large public showing of their dirty laundry.
