To those who've seen it: What did you think? I was pleasantly surprised with it. I totally thought they were just trying to milk the success of the original (which is my favorite film), but Reeves did an awesome job with the remake. 9/10

haven't seen it yet so i won't judge, just two things:
1-it sure as hell won't be as good as the original like any other remake out there
2-the title makes me cringe for some reason
the title is a little mistifying, as the original novel was named after a Morrissey song ('Let the right one slip in')
I absolutely adore the original film, it's brilliant. I have the foreboding feeling that it will be simplified and turned into a horror film for American audiences.
Was the original film called "Let The Right One In"?the title is a little mistifying, as the original novel was named after a Morrissey song ('Let the right one slip in')

Yes it was.
Whether the remake does justice to the original or not is completely irrelevant to me. The original is one of my favourite movies ever and its impact on me rendered any remake totally obsolete.

Okay good cause I loved that film. In that case ill never see "Let Me In" since it's a remake of an already great film :P.[QUOTE="Crazy_Jane"][QUOTE="Melpoe"] Was the original film called "Let The Right One In"?Melpoe

Why would you not watch it, whether you like it more or not? There are many, many aspects about it that have been altered that alone make it worth seeing. It's not just a frame for frame remake. You might be pleasantly surprised....[QUOTE="Melpoe"][QUOTE="Crazy_Jane"]Okay good cause I loved that film. In that case ill never see "Let Me In" since it's a remake of an already great film :P. Pretty much what Travo just said, I loved the original and seeing the remake (tho it might be great) might change my view on the original. It's an ocd thing :P.Yes it was.

People have a bit of a misconception about this, Reeves didn't study the last film and remake it, he went back to the novel. I've heard that the film maintains the same 'feel' as the 1st one, that is, that sense of childhood innocence. An odd thing to say about a horror movie but that chemistry is really what made the 1st one so great. If this one feels the same way then likely the source material is responsible for those overtones. Not some insight from the original director, but rather the author. So don't call it a rip-off, if it's based on the book then that is just natural creative translation, not capitalizing on some hip new fad.
Neither of those things happened. It's quite similar to the original, no dumbing down, or making it more tame (actually I think it's slightly more violent than the original). For once, an American remake of a foreign film went very well and with respect for the source material. Even if it's not as fresh as the original, the fact that they went and made a great film is cause for celebration (plenty of people who never saw the original will see this film instead, I think it's nice to know they're getting a faithful and well made version, even if the ought to see both, and read the novel). So many people who only ever see the remake of a foreign film get left with a rubbish film, it's rare and welcome to see it averted.the title is a little mistifying, as the original novel was named after a Morrissey song ('Let the right one slip in')

Well for starters, from what I've read, the DVD release has ******* awful subtitles...plus most Americans are too lazy to watch subtitled movies anyway.:PI loved the original and I can't think I any reason (other than money) to remake it, so its not on the top of my list.

Exactly. He took the original source material, stayed faithful to it, and added a few new (and great) spins to it. Not seeing it is, in my opinion, like not trying a new recipe of your favorite food. You just might find the new recipe tastes better. I certainly did.People have a bit of a misconception about this, Reeves didn't study the last film and remake it, he went back to the novel. I really hate to sound like a downer but "Let the Right one in" is probably one of the most overrated movies I have ever seen. I get the feeling that critics were a huge factor in peoples opinion's though our ego's will never admit that. I thought the first film was good, just not amazing, not even close.
"Let Me in" was better. To put it simple, the movie was just more access able to an audience who never read the book.
I thought it was surprisingly good. The CGI looked really cheesy, the music was a bit over the top, the new cop character didn't add much, and some scenes were a bit too similar to the original. Heck some lines were the exact same as the original film, and the film was overly obvious and left very little to the imagination. With that being said though the acting was so damn good, and the scenes were all done well despite how a lot of them were too similar to the original film. The lack of mystery, and ambiguity made the film a bit too striaght forward, and slightly one dimensional but it was still a damn good film. One of the best remakes I have seen in years. It may not be as good as the original or have as much emotional resonance, but I applaud Matt Reeves for doing such a good job. The original is a favorite of mine, and it had a huge influence on my writing but I can still appreciate the remake despite it's flaws.
