After finishing the book and loving the movie, I cant help but think that an American Remake of the film would be a bad idea. I fear that the director may take out all the meaning to the film and turn it into a horror flick or worse - A Twilight Knock-Off. Still, there have been some exceptions. A Tale of Two Sisters remade into The Uninvited was a great film despite being forgettable. What do you all think of this?

Remaking a film just because it's 'foreign' is and always will be a terrible idea. If people are too lazy/ignorant to read the damn subtitles then they can go sod off and watch Transformers.

Seems like both a bad idea . . . . and as inevitable as the sun rising in the morning.

Let the Right One In does not need a remake. It was an amazing film on its own merits. But the way they are selling this film is not as a remake but as a "re-imagining" of the book. I really don't see how they are going to avoid comparisons to what was already a great film though. I haven't seen Cloverfield but seeing "from the director Cloverfield" on the poster does not inspire my confidence!!! Its not really a question of whether it will be good or bad - its more of a question of WHY it needs to be done!! Its not secret that Hollywood is really scrapping the barrel for ideas..

Edit: They've also changed the title to Let Me In - not a good start

I've yet to see the original Swedish version, but I've inferred from forum discussions on IMDB and elsewhere that ...
... the vampire "girl" is actually a young eunuch, making the relationship with the boy an essentially homosexual one. Is that correct, or have I been misled?
If there were an American remake, it would be interesting to see whether they chose to leave that in or decided to "sanitize" it.

Having read the novel, I can tell you that that is indeed true. They just don't take into very much detail in the film.

Thanks for the confirmation. I wonder whether that detail will appear in the American remake!

Something tells me that one of two things will happen with this. Either A. It will be so good that it will blow people's mind...Or B. It will be terrible. Either way I think the original is always best.

It's not a remake but another adaptation of the novel. It could be good but it won't be better than the original film.

I have a sense of impending dread whenever I think of it. I can see the characters aged to be teenagers, and the source material annihilated.

I loved the original movie, but I'm not particularly interested in seeing this one... nor am I interested in judging it 'till release.

As long as the little vampyer gets to say:
"at least i don't sparkle."

That would make my day.
