Haven't made a thread here in ages and I'm currently listening to Final Day's Society, so I felt like it.

Who here listens to the beauty that is Post-Rock? What is your favourite Post-Rock band? Recommendations? Should there be more Post-Rock bands with vocals? What do you love most about Post-Rock? And so forth.

As stated earlier I'm listening to Final Days Society, a Swedish Post-Rock band. The album is Noise Passes, Silence Remains and so far its pretty good album. Nice and chill. My favourite Post-Rock band is Silence Kit from Russia. Their album The Great Red Spot is ******* fantastic. Other favourites include I Am Above On The Left, In A Nutshell, Everything Is Made In China, A Silver Mt. Zion, Les Discrets and Set Fire To Flames.

Oceansize. :)

Fried_Shrimp

I love Oceansize but I've never seen them as Post-Rock, more prog-rock.

Although to be honest their recent EP Home & Minor was sorta post-rock-ish, but still.

AND I JUST REALISED THEIR NEW ALBUM IS OUT OMGOMGOMG

I would recommend This Will Destroy You and Sleepmakeswaves, and they're pretty much the only post-rock I like so far.

I've just started getting into the genre. Mostly GSYBE and Red Sparow. Recommends would be cool. Also I love how a lot of it is instrumental.

You know how I talk about that chain of music stores in the mteal union? Well I went to the one that is near my university. I was looking around I heard this really cool music playing. I ask the guy who put it on and he said it was Red Sparowes.

Explosions in the sky

More indie but still have post-rock vibes, Maserati, The Mercury Program and Tristeza.

Looking forward to listening Sigur Ros, Red Sparrowes and God is an astronaut, heard good stuff about them.

As they're the best post rock band. :P

I would suggest listening to these bands:

  • Balmorhea
  • Gray Strawberries
  • Mountains

I like the usual post-rock bands people mentioned here, like Godspeed!, but recently I've been digging Flying Saucer Attack (2). They're not really post-rock per se (apparently they're space rock), but they've got a lot of shoegaze elements in their music.

I'll second Explosions in the Sky, GYBE, Sigur Ros and Mogwai as the big four. On top of that I'll push some Long Distance Calling, Esmerine, Caspian, The Calm Blue Sea, The Six Parts Seven, Pg.Lost, Omega Massif, Magyar Posse, God is an Astronaut, and The Evpatoria Report.

Zbogom Adja are probably my favorite from the genre. They're pretty much the Slovenian version of GY!BE only more guitar oriented.

Heliocentric was a cool album. If you liked them then maybe check out The Ichthyologist by Giant Squid. Both play Post-Metal and are quite good.

I sort of only recently gotten into post-rock from prog-rock so there are only a few bands I've heard/like. I've linked a few youtube videos (so excuse the crap quality) below.

Some of the more obscure stuff I like are Collapse Under The Empire, The Severely Departed, and The Evpatoria Report

And of course the obligatory Explosions In The Sky and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Although I must say I don't care much for Mogwai for some reason.

Edit: How could I forget Balmorhea?

I've been wanting to get into Godspeed You! Black Emperor, but they're just so boooooring. Some of their songs are cool, but then the others just put me to sleep.

A lot of post-rock is great to nap to. I've fallen asleep many times while listening to Silence Kit and Everything Is Made In China.

I personally like my post-rock without vocals, or at least with indecipherable vocals. It lets me add my own thoughts and feelings to the music instead of it being dictated to me.

I found Yanqui U.x.0 to be accessible for some of my friends who like harder music, where my personal favourite F#A#*infinity* was deemed treacherously boring. Though if you've also tried that album, I doubt there's much they could do to appeal to you.
