[QUOTE="MistressMinako"]Nothing. Didn't we all start out with level 1 and one post? :Pshoot-first

Yes, but I'm just curious to see how OT feels about these new comers. I'd think they would need to build up that trust over time by posting/interacting with us a bit more before being treated like a regular. They could probably just bribe me with some beer, though. That would probably work, too. :P

As long as the first posts are not obvious troll posts, everyone should get a break and be welcomed. Now this does not include obvious alts either. Fresh meat is the lifeblood of forums and when you rag on them, what makes them want to come back here when all they faced originally was abuse. If they are obviously trolling, call them out on it, but elsewise, be nice.

Most of the people like that tend to be advertising a website or a "free" downloadable game.

I honestly don't see the need to bash others. In fact...if I don't like them they aren't on my radar when I'm not seeing their posts. IE on other forums or in life. And saying one is happy z was banned because z trolled them is not actually bashing them.

LJS9502_basic

(RED) At any occassion? Because previously you stated that you would bash others in their banned threads (if you didnt like them).

Saying someone was trolling or implying he was a troll in general isnt bashing? Since when is being considered a troll a good thing or at least rid of its negative connotations?

[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"][QUOTE="Teenaged"]But we arent talking about veiled references. We are talking about straightforward posts made in another forum about users here.

I dont see the problem with two of us discussing about someone who doesnt have an account here. Isnt that actually what happens in banned threads? Dont we talk about users who no longer have active accounts here?

I would only have a problem with bashing someone while I (or whoever is bashing said person) have given him/her the impression that I like them.

Teenaged

They are a banned user. Someone that never had an account was never a user here and thus outside the scope of this forum. Unless one can't stop thinking about them I suppose to actually enjoy the users that ARE visible in the forum.

That difference actually makes it worse to talk about someone who is banned.

Because they were once a member here. They may have friends here.

But in a setting you dont only about the people present so I still find your label "obsession" unjustified. Just because people talk about others who arent present doesnt mean they are obsessed over them. That would be a convenient delusion for those being bashed to have.

It appears you are justifying bashing users on other sites. Do they matter that much to you that you think about them when they aren't around?

I'd say what I thought of them.....it can be positive, indifferent, or negative. But I don't spend my time posting about them on other forums....or even thinking about them really.

Stating an opinion on the subject of a thread is not obsessing. Obsessing is talking about them for no good reason. When they aren't a user on a site for instance. And second.....stating an opinion on a banned user does not inherently mean it's a negative.;)

If it is negative, isnt it bashing?

But people dont go to other forums solely to bash them. Wrong assumption from your part.

So the comparison you draw between what you do and what others do still isnt really presented accurately.

Stating an opinion on another forum is not obsessing. "No good reason" is subjective.

But I was specifically talking about when the opinion is negative. Are you not following me?

If you reread my post over you will see that I never said that is why they go to other forums. Stating one's opinion on a person is not bashing per se. One can have a negative reason for very valid reasons. For instance....if the user trolled them. Saying one did not like them and that they were a troll would be an emotion and a fact.

So "bashing" now means to say a negative thing about someone unjustifiably?

I am not interested in semantics arguments. Lets stick to what words actually mean. Thank you.

Any time spent talking about a user on a different site is spending time obsessing about the person. First one has the thought....then one has the conversation. You can argue that all you want....but it's not going to convince me one doesn't have obsessions if they are thinking about specific users not around.

Yes let's do stick to what the words mean and not make them say what they didn't say to start with....

I am afraid not. The only reason mentions of users are more frequent in the outside forum than in the banned threads here is because the users being discussed are usually still active which means they still do things that people will have an opinion about. If having an opinion is obsessing then wow what can I say?

I am glad you are aknowledging that. So dont use "bash" in a way its meaning doesnt justify again.

Ok good to know that when I log off the site then I leave the site. The more you know I guess. What does that have to do with what we are discussing.

Will you tell me where I said what you claimed I said or will this little exchange end like last time you claimed that I said something?

I dont avoid talking about OT users anywhere.

I don't see you name specific users and then the negative opinions. I see you make references to them...yes. But never add their user name.

Will you answer my questions? I asked two in specific in the post you just quoted. Look to it please.

As for your comment: are you talking about here?

If yes, then I do that for the same reason you would prefer to be honest about users once they are banned: the ToU.

Although I have had moments where I have been far more sincere than most of the users who whine about sincerety in OT.

I don't know what you are referring to. Not talking behind someone's back? I assumed that is why you were referencing about what gets said in banned threads. Did you mean it's okay to talk behind their back? And if so.....why mention those threads then for an example.

You made an array of assumptions there. And if I recal correctly you are very against assuming...

I never commented on whether or not I am against talking behind ones back. I only compared bashing someone in their banned thread vs bashing someone in a forum outside of GS.

Dont know how you reach all those conclusions of yours...

You still havent justified your "obsession" label that you frequently used in this thread.

This thread went from talking about level 1 users making their first post, all the way to users getting the ban hammer. I guess that makes some sense since I've seen my share of level 1s get banned before even making their second post. Ah, the vicious cycle of life and death. :P

It was your string of posts where you talked about talking behind someone's back. So then...you find it fine to bash people behind their back? And it's a cIassic definition of an obsession when one is thinking about and talking about someone not around. Especially when it's done frequently. As in more than once in passing. I'm not going to argue the definition with you. There are specific psychology disciplines one can research for some insight into the subject. Fascinating subject. Anyway.....I'm not going to keep going around and around over this. I do recommend the reading....as they say in Greece...if they speak English...see ya 'round.

[QUOTE="Teenaged"]

[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]I don't know what you are referring to. Not talking behind someone's back? I assumed that is why you were referencing about what gets said in banned threads. Did you mean it's okay to talk behind their back? And if so.....why mention those threads then for an example.

LJS9502_basic

You made an array of assumptions there. And if I recal correctly you are very against assuming...

I never commented on whether or not I am against talking behind ones back. I only compared bashing someone in their banned thread vs bashing someone in a forum outside of GS.

Dont know how you reach all those conclusions of yours...

Like I already stated I only have a problem with bashing someone who isnt around if those bashing him/her have given him/her the impression that they like him/her, ie they are fooling him/her.

Nope I dont see how your definition is correct. If your definition stands then a large portion of the population is obsessed with many people since many people talk about people who arent present very frquently. Its called "gossiping". Once again, have you never talked about someone who isnt present at the moment you are discussing?

Well its a wise choice that you wont argue the definition with me since the definition you gave is off. Once again I am not interested in semantics arguments.

No please.. vaguelly mentioning scientific fields that supposedly support your statements wont do. I wont do the research for you. I know no such Greek saying.

Bashing is bashing. There is no need for it. You don't like someone...you don't have to like them. But you shouldn't bash them either. No. Unless it's specific to something..ie x was assigned this.....or x was over...not spending time "bashing" them. Quite different than a friend asking if I'd see x. Or had y bought the beer or whatever.

Nonetheless, I'm not the one asking about the meaning of obsession. I've merely mentioned some interesting research into the topic if you were interested in learning. I f not...don't read it. Doesn't matter to me at all.

If all you wanted was a quick dictionary definition....the domination of one's thoughts or feelings by a persistent idea, image, desire, etc. 2. the idea, image, desire, feeling, etc., itself.

Which fits with what I've said if one feels the need to go to other sites to talk about someone. That would be a domination of ones thoughts if one cannot let it go when the person is not around.

As for the Greek saying....it was a joke...since I was saying see you around but I didn't know how to say it Greek. ;)

Then you dont agree with bashing in banned threads either? Or is that a special occassion?

IRL yes people will talk negatively about others who arent present. That doesnt mean they are obsessed.

I wasnt asking about the meaning of obsession either. But here you are, a couple of posts ago, trying to redefine it. *shrugs* Yeah you meantioned that I could learn about obsession if I read into psychology. Well, it might be shocking to find out but most people (including me) know that psychology is the relevant scientific field so.... what the new information here?

No it doesnt fit. the people I am talking about dont go to other sites in order to talk about others. That just happens in a "by the way" fashion and it creates a lot of hilarious moments in the forum. Why "let it go" if it brings the funny?

One doesn't "have to go" for a specific reason to still obsesss over users while there. Bashing and insulting people not around brings the funny? One..it's still obsession to have these individuals have such a hold over users that they need to spend time "being funny". Second....bashing people isn't funny. Usually it's done by insecure individuals that feel big when belittling others.

Ok that still doesnt show how your accusation of an obsession is likely.

Who said that the funny moments only come from bashing users who arent around?

Maybe it isnt to you. Funny is subjective.

Let me guess: that last line is something psychology taught you?

Use any labels you like. Doesnt mean they are true.

And if we are into labeling, then why not label bashing users in their banned threads as something only weasel-type of people would do. People who dont really give others the opportunity to defend themselves.

Or those who vaguelly accuse other users of things without naming them?

See I can do that too.

I gave you the quick dictionary definition you sought. Now you don't accept it. You just said it brought the funny. Have you changed your mind now?

As I said....the subject is interesting and enlightening. All your questions would be answered. However, at some point if I see you outside of OT I could elaborate. Not doing it here.

I never rejected the definition you gave me last. ;) I denied that it applies where you said it applies. Big difference.

Yes I said that bashing others can be funny. How is that related?

Well my questions are pretty simple and I dont see how being in OT in some way makes you unable to reply. I didnt ask you to name anyone, so what are you afraid of?

Some of them are just starting out. We all have to have a first post. But if it's a spam topic, or someone trolling, or what seems to be an alt then I report them.
