This song has helped me overcome the hardships of an abusive alcoholic father and a familially irresponsible mother. It has always inspired me to hope for the best and aim for the stars:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lp_PIjc2ga4

I find it odd how a song would get me through something. During tough times I might play something that is closer to a specific feeling but I never find myself thanking music for getting me through anything other than boredom.

ok it might not be the case for everyone i agree. i dont know how it helps people it just sorta does.

like for me if i listen to a song with lyrics that are relavent to a problem i've got it just helps me to let out my emotions instead of keeping them all in i guess...its quite theraputic. But like i said its not the same for everyone

No, its far more personal than that. That song is about loneliness but i seen the lyrics from a different aspect at the time and still do. Its a very touching song.

I took a wild guess cause I think Vedder wrote it after his GF broke up with him. Well maybe not quite but it was a broken hearted man remembering his loved one.

Bull. You must not have the right type of music then. For me, its Subterranean Homesick Alien by Radiohead. Absolutely changed my course and state of mind. At the time I was incredibly depressed and alienated, but then I heard this song I realized it's not the end of the world, that other people feel the same way. That is the number one reason I love music and Radiohead so much.

Disintergration by the cure-whole album

Broken by nin-whole album

good apollo im burning star IV vol1 and vol2-no world for tommorow-coheed and cambria-whole albums

These four albums. They did not change me or my life in a literal sense, but they did help me get through some very dark times.

Broken helped we when I was a teenager coming to the conclusion that even if I succeded at everything I wanted i was still going to be a square peg that would not fit into a round hole,I was never going to have the approval of my freinds, family and peers, and all I had was a choice of anger and blame,or moving on. I moved on.

Disintergration helped me get through realizing I have no use or desire for the family life and my ability to just stop feeling at the drop of a hat for no reason, that it is hard for me to have a stable relationship, yet at the same time I desire just one girl for the rest of my life, but my nature says otherwise.I also have to give a nod to Counting Crows album August and everything after for also helping me through that period.

The Coheed albums helped me get through my breakup with my ex,and deal with the pain of the loss and runitaion of a relationship that should not have been a problem other than the fact we were both to selfish to look beyond our own point of views to hear each other out.

I havnt really yet experienced life changing music as in music that changes my view on the world or the way I react to things. However I do have music that brought tears to my eyes thinking humans are capable of truly fantastic things. Those songs would be:

'New York state of Mind' - performed live by Billy Joel

'Georgia'- performed by Ray Charles

'5th symphony' -Beethoven

Some pieces of Pathetique/Empassionata by beethoven.

There are a few more but I guess ive mentioned enough.

Song, not so much. But Appetite for Destruction by GNR when I was 12 or 13 set the tone for the type of music I still like today.

Maybe not life changing, but there are some that I really can connect with.

Subterranean Homesick Alien by Radiohead, for example, is just amazing on every level. :)

"Scotland the Brave" was played at my grandfathers funeral. I always get a small tear to my eye when I hear the song, nothing brings more pride in me than that song. I honestly have the most patriotic mindset in the world when I hear it, and I feel like my ego is overflowing when it ends :D

Yeah. That video is great. I don't know if you're joking, BrainSplatter, but I actually did grow up with an abusive alcoholic father, and my mother was definitely codependent, and enabled his behavior...my parents were always fighting and we were always getting the crap kicked out of us mentally and physically. Music has literally saved me. I remember my parents fighting when I was about 8, and I discovered my mother's Beatles collection...I just remember that the White Album helped me escape. In particular, I remember, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". That songs always hits me hard, because I remember what was happening in the other room when I discovered that song.

the only LIFE CHANGING song i would say i have is "Sir Duke" by Stevie Wonder. i heard it when i was young and the whole message about music being something we can all relate to really appealed to me and thats what got me into playing guitar. Thats not to say there arent songs that are extremley close to me. "Im already there" by Lonestar (for reasons id rather not mention o.O) and "I will follow you into the dark" by Death Cab for Cutie (i know my music taste is a bit whack but these songs are pretty powerful if you really listen to them o.o)

This song changed my life. It changed what genre of music I listen to, it changed my entire outlook on music, it inspired me to become a musician, it influences who I hang out with, and it's just one of those "greats" to me.

Jurassic 5 - Thin Line

you know that girl that you really liked but she only saw you as a friend, this song helped me overcome that feeling when you feel like your heart was just broken

Pardon Me by Incubus ironically helped me get through a time where I was depressed
