You don't use the metric system, nor do you like soccer. Amazing isn't it. America's the place to be for fun times, video games at affordable, reasonable prices, services like Netflix and Hulu, etc etc. It's where the scene is at.

Really... I wonder what it's like to live in the middle of the United States. You know, neither in California, New York, or Florida. Or Montana for that matter. What's it like in the middle of the US? Is it just as glamorous as other places?

I don't think the Midwest is glamorous, but I've also lived in California, and for your average Joe it's not going to be glamorous either. Just because a bunch of celebrities live in your state doesn't mean they're going to invite you to their birthday parties or whatever.

I lived in North Dakota for three years and I really liked it. The town was small, taxes were reasonable and they didn't try and control your life.

I don't think any country is the best in the world. There's lots of awesome places to live out there, depending on what you look for in a home.

Funny you should say that and then all of a sudden imply that NYC is preferable to all when quite frankly, it's a pretty dangerous and unforgiving place for those that are not rich and aren't staying at the Marriott Marquis or such.

Who said America is the best country in the world? :| Don't get me wrong, I can't wait to visit it one day, and I like the culture, etc. But it's impossible to pin point the 'best' country, when the world is full of fantastic places I'd like to visit.

If you find America to be the best country in spite of those things, then I guess not using the metric system and not liking soccer is what makes America, America if that's how you're measuring our country. I've never been to the middle of the United States and don't care to be, but I think that says more about me than the mid-west.

I don't really get what kind of point you're trying to make, so I'm going to ignore the babbling at the beginning and answer your legitimate questions. I live in the middle (Upper Midwest: North Dakota, to be exact). The Midwest is quite different from the coasts, which are portrayed as being very bustling. The Midwest is rather quiet living. There usually isn't much crime. There's a lot of farmland. The climate is rather extreme. It can get a little boring at times. The suicide and binge-drinking rates are high. There are a lot of religious people. Education is pretty high-quality. The people are known for their friendliness. It has a reputation of being a boring dust bowl, which can be argued. North Dakota is far from glamorous and it's nothing like NYC or LA, but it's not inferior. It's just a different way of life, I guess. We have snow on the ground for like six months out of every year, it's sparsely populated, and the states out here are quite large. There are a lot of small towns, dying towns, and farmers, but there are also businesses, cities, technology, and so forth. We're not all out in the middle of nowhere. There maybe aren't as many activities or opportunities in certain parts of the Midwest, but it's not exactly lacking either. There are large cities out here like Minneapolis/St. Paul, Chicago, etc. I may complain sometimes about living in North Dakota, but it's honestly quite a nice place. The economy is robust, the unemployment rate is the lowest in the country, there's hardly any crime, there's a lot of beautiful scenery, the people are pretty nice, the standard of living is high, the cost of living is low---there are a lot of great things I can say about living in ND. It gets a little dull sometimes, but it's also possible to entertain yourself. The middle of the country is falsely portrayed as purely farmland or hicks or stupid people, and the coasts are falsely portrayed as always exciting, full of interesting people and exciting activities, crime on every corner, etc. Portrayals just often play on stereotypes.

You're judging based on what you see on hollywood movies? America is overrated. I've lived there for a couple years and it's ****, nowhere near the best in the world. Hence why no American cities are ever voted in the top cities of the world list.

I hate how we don't use the metric system, so much better... 10, 100, 1000, instead of 4, 12, 5280 -.-. "Glamorous'? I wouldn't call it that, very few pretty places, especially Florida, so flat... So very, very flat and bland. Imo, the US is one of the uglier, if not ugliest of the good nations(good nation = nation that if I were to live there, I wouldn't suicide asap to get out of the misery of that craphole{middle east, mexico, china...})

Also, I'd like to say, Country is horrible and so is the accent of the general people who like it.

@'soccer' also known correctly as Football, I don't like calling it by it's Americanized name, it's just incorrect.. American 'Football' hardly uses the foot to move the ball around, it's like naming Basketball, Pinata throwing. I hate sports :)

"The best country in the world," eh? I'm flattered, but this is really quite a subjective statement. :P

Yeah, I agree it's silly about not using the metric system, but why does everyone have to like soccer. Anyway, I'm not sure the point you're trying to get at. :/

I live in the midwest... it's pretty average here.. not everyone in the United States acts like the extravagent people you see on TV, you know. Although I live in a somewhat more well-to-do suburban neighborhood than some others nearby, which means that there are quite a few snobs here. Not everyone is like that though, just the ones with money.

My grandparents live not too far away and it's definitely more rural where they're at.

I live in central iowa and it is great. We have 3 of the top 50 colleges in the US in Iowa State Uni, Uni of Iowa, and Grinnell College. We have a top 10 precollege education system. You get as much culture as coastal states. Our cost of living is much less then almost anywhere else yet we still get paid the same amounts as elsewhere. Des Moines, Iowa City, Ames, and Council Bluffs are all just as lively and entertaining as LA or NYC. We do deal with the weather extremes in both winter and summer. -30F in winter with ice and snow everywhere. 110F in the summer with 100% humidity. We have tornadoes and we also do have faults through the state so there is the chance of earthquakes and we get heavy flooding in the summer as of late but I couldn't live anywhere else.

America is a continent, and I can guarantee you that most of it isn't as 'glamorous' as some make it out to be. I'd much rather be a Canadian or a first-world European country citizen than a north-American: since they at least have a welfare state guaranteed by the government, although I see that as something that'll end pretty soon.

The US isn't the best country in the world.. For metric system, imperial system is just ingrained that its going to be really hard to change.. Soccer... I find it refreshing that the US doesn't like soccer... Just as places like Europe does not like American football mostly.. Variety.. Variety.. And more Variety..

America isn't the best country in the world, but it's definitely not that bad. I live in the midwest, but I don't think it's very representative of the rest of the midwest. I live in south-eastern Michigan, in one of the richest and most populated counties in the country. It's hilly, snowy and filled with trees. Absolutely filled with trees. I hate going to the rest of the midwest because of just how incredibly flat it all seems. The midwest isn't all that glamorous, except for Chicago maybe. Crime rates are generally low, good schools in most areas. Just a generally chill place to be. :)

I agree about the metric system. I absolutely despise the imperial system.

You should watch Australian Football League (AFL) its got everything and is extremely fast paced its a mix of Rugby,Gaelic,Soccer and NFL.

Heres some awesome highlights
