Finally it is announced that the new album will be coming outSeptember 14th

I'm personally so excited to get a new album finally... I'm just really hoping they have moved away from the mainstream album they call "Minutes to Midnight" and go back to their roots which created their fanbase. Don't get me wrong, there were few good songs in Minutes but it had a quite a bit of mainstream stuff.

So OT, what do you think?

I'm interested to see what musical direction they will take this time. Even though they were not at their best, I thought M2M was a step in the right direction compared to the nu metal stuffs they have already done in the past.

Really? It took them so long to come up with a new album I seriously thought they had just called it quits after minutes to midnight. Not that it matters; whether they decide to try a different approach or go back to their roots, the new album will suck just like the rest of their material. I can't believe I used to listen to this band...

Not interested. I loved Hybrid Theory and Meteora, but I didn't buy Minutes to Midnight. No joke, my friend bought it and lent it to me. When I told him I was done with it, he said I could keep it. I threw it in the backseat of his car and wrote on a post-it "Do Not Want!".

Yea, this is what happens wen a band takes a new direction..... i'm hoping they have a really good mix on the next album, try something fresh but keep a bit of the same roots from Hybird and meteora.

And there better be more Hahn

In order, for me, Reanimation, Meterora(?), Live in Texas, Hybrid Theory, Minutes to Midnight. As a band that had some great use of sounds, I hope they push more towards my preferred three. :3

Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of the songs on there (Bleed it out, Given Up) but they tried too much to push otu the mainstream stuff onto the radios and T.V. It wasn't them and it gave them a bad feel.

lol

I'm not trying to start a fight here, but I found that comment pretty funny, considering Hybrid Theory and Meteora were already as mainstream as rock gets. Linkin Park was a mainstream band conceived for radio and tv from day one.

I hardly consider nu-metal mainstream, can you really see any 35+ listening to that on the radio? They basically turned alt-rock when Minutes hit which is incredibly mainstream and played every day.

Just because it's not as popular as Gaga or Bieber doesn't mean it's not mainstream. Both of Linkin Park's first two albums were very successful and popular; they had multiple hit singles appear on radio and tv; they got near the top of the charts (if not to the very top); and they amassed a huge following.

Isn't all of that the very definition of mainstream?

Again, was this played on the radio a lot and would people over the age of 35 even give it a shot? No. Only "In The End" received any play time really... And that's their only song on the entire album which was fit for mainstream. I guess it takes one song out of a entire album to make it mainstream.

Oh really? What about Closer, Papercut, and Crawling? All of those were singles taken from the album and they all received plenty of play time, especially Crawling, which was also a huge hit along with In The End. I was a Linkin Park fanboy back in the day, you can't fool me. :P

Anyway, what do 35 year olds have to do with anything? Seriously? Where did you get the idea that your parents make up the mainstream music audience? :?

I heard that their trying for a "genre busting" sound. I doubt it though. Either way I have been saying the albulm will come this year forever.

I didn't even know they were coming out with a new album, thanks. I hope it has a different sound than "Minutes to Midnight" but I've always loved their songs, so I'm probably going to be happy with it one way or the other. Just so long as they don't completely mess it up.

I listened to Linkin Park when I was younger with my brother all the time. After a while, they just kinda fell outta my radar. Then M2M came out and I decided not to listen to that album or any other Linkin Park album for awhile.

I still have the first 2 albums on my computer because I do enjoy a few songs off of them from time to time, but they certainly aren't in heavy circulation.

I don't see this new album as being any good. I don't really care about Linkin Park anymore so I guess that's just my opinion.

If they blow everyone away with this new album, I'll probably give it a try.

Linkin Park was as mainstream as music comes. Especially in the rock genre, they were right alongside bands like Metallica, Nickelback, and Korn in terms of radioplay. They sold a ridiculous amount of albums to all age groups. But Minutes to Midnight was their attempt to show their audience they can mature and expand, and it alienated and divided a fanbase.

They don't interest me anymore. I've found some amazing music overseas, but I might still give this album a shot.

Can't say I'm exited after the direction Linkin Park have taken with Minutes to Midnight.

  • Hybrid Theory - ****ing amazing. Love it to death
  • Meteora - Pretty good. Has some awesome songs and some great ones.
  • Minutes to Midnight - what the **** were they thinking? Has around 2 or 3 good songs. The rest are either mediocre or dog ****.

Let's hope A Thousand Suns is like Hybrid Theory and Meteora.

*Crossings fingers that this album is like Meteora*

Yeah, Meteora is my fav album by them with Hybrid Theory a close second.

Minutes was horrid though besides a couple songs.

I will admit though, I did like that single New Divide so I won't count them out yet.
