Yeah, plus from what I've seen, his attitude or I should say sportsmanship is really good. Not like some other soccer players.
Also, I doubt this is the best place for soccer talk.
Oh, let's not forget that Pele and Maradona are overrated. The rules of soccer have changed a lot since their time, so it's not as easy for a striker to be scoring goals left and right.

what do you mean isnt the best place?
this is off-topic isnt it? a topic outside of videogame's about the most popular sport in the world?
perfect place to talk about it methinks
Yeah ESPN had that as one of their top 10 plays of the week. He is indeed a truly amazing player to watch. Its also crazy that he is still so young, and has plenty more years to improve and play in his prime.
This is the best thread I have seen in OT in awhile.
Messi is a God amongst mere mortals on the pitch. His performances in Barca's last 3 games have been nothing short of incredible. Don't get me wrong there are other great players dong well this year, but Messi is consistently showing why no one is better than him right now.
I am honored just to get to watch him play. If he keeps this up for another 10 to 15 years, he will no doubt in my mind be the greatest to ever play the game. He is only 22 and already has a great body of work to show for. He just needs to perform for his national side. I can't wait for the World Cup!

Agreed :lol:Obviously from your sig i can tell your opinion is bias :P But i would say true.. he is like nothing we've seen for a while.. Completely different play stye to players consider "best" recently..This is the best thread I have seen in OT in awhile.

He's no Pele... On a related note, I did a search for Pele images and this came up :?spazzx625
Are you old enough to have seen Pele play? I am just curious because I am not, and I would love for someone who has seen him play to make legitimate comparison between the two. I know Messi isn't on Pele's level yet because he is yet to win what Pele has...the world cup, but it would be nice to see how he matches up at this point in his career. Watching videos of Pele online isn't enough for me to truly determine how great Pele actually was.

Barcelona also have Iniesta who can also be known as the best player around at the moment also Torres, Rooney, Ronaldo, Drogba also
but Messi is king at the moment as probably will be for the next 10 years
Well seeing as how a lot of the users here don't like soccer, and there are thousands of football forums...
But hey, this topic is coming along nicely.

well thats becasue this is a games website and usually games people dont like sport that much, I love both
even non sports fans like football though as it has a flow and skill unlike other sports, maybe Basketball being the exception, but thats smaller scale sport and just isnt the spectacle football is plus its limited to tall people which annoys me a bit
Messi is around 5'6 thats what I loe about football, you can be any size and be amazing!

Hes better then Pele. Messi can create chances out of nothing
the problem is ,he ain't like this when he plays for argentina ,i saw a poll somewhere representing that argentinians in general believe that he should be substitute in their national team.

Tell maradona to lay off the crack and maybe argentina would do alot better, they have the two highest goal scorers in la liga and the second highest goal scorer in Serie A for crying out loud.. yet he benches two of them for reasons unknown to even myself.
Seriously their fowards are godly...
Lionel Messi
Gonzalo Higuain
Diego Milito..
but maradona takes too much crack to coach properly.

i agree,he's ruining a great potential ,in a side note i don't find argentina's midfielders really that good, talking about messi; he doesn't get supported as well as when he plays in FCB and that's possibly one reason he isn't that good in argentina i believe.Obviously from your sig i can tell your opinion is bias :P But i would say true.. he is like nothing we've seen for a while.. So glad you mentioned Torres.. I'm obviously bias in this, big Liverpool fan, but i think he is the best striker to hit the premiership.. And will become more..You mean the guy who scores using his hands? yeah, once he did that he lost all my respect, what a cheater....6_volts
its kind of a tradition if your from Argentina

even I would be one of the best player in the world if i had xavi and iniesta playing for me
the proof that messi isn´t so great is that with argentina he doesn´t do anything
also if you think about it, if messi and cr9 played a 1 on 1 match were their skills were proved (kind of like the thing they do in the nba to see who´s the best guy making dunks, 3 points shots, etc) cr9 would completly destroy messi
I m Argentinian and i think he is overated, when he plays for Argentina he DOES NOTHING Teves for the winSolid_Tango
oh goody!!! good news for the world cup then!
hopefully Diego will be in the local Johannesburg crack-den the night before we play them (if we do of course)

IMO the best players at this time would would´ve been the best player in history if they would´ve played in the 80s or 70s

The second goal was sick, and so was the way he took I don't know how many defenders in the area and got the penalty. This guy is a dribbling machine. Right now, he's one of the best in the world, along with Rooney and Ronaldo. I'm still waiting for Kaka to return to his Player of the Year form (I'm a Barcelona fan, but I've been a Kaka fan since he went to Milan :P).
