Hi, my name is Dave Le, I have a question about apartments, can you answer them for me, thanks.

1)How much does it cost to rent an apartment?
2) How costs are divided up among roommates.
3) The pros and cons of having roommates.
4) How to read and interpret lease.
5) What it costs to furnish an apartment?
6) Setting up and sticking to a budget.

Thanks again, Thanks.

1) Uhh It depends what type of an apartment your looking for...How big, where you live etc... 2)That depends on what your roomates want to divide up 3)Pro's of roomates can be....Shared rent bills etc... You don't have to pay for everything on your own. You have someone around to talk to hang out with etc. Some cons...Some roomates cannot be reliable they can be annoying rude and not pull their own weight. 4) Just read it carefully. 5) Again it depends on a few things... 6) this isent a question...

I know I was just being difficult... In answer to that I can't really give a good answer. I don't really have a set budget like on paper or anything so I am not the best person to answer that question.

3. PRO: roommates might bring over hot chicks. CON: roommates can hear you having sex and might secretly enjoy it.

I chose to live by myself since I cannot stand the thought of having roomates throw parties whenever the hell they please.

Then again my mommy pays for everything so.......

Hmmmm most of your questions require common sense, or cant be answered properly by a couple of posts... You should get someone with experience to sit down with you and help make a budget. All i can say when trying to do 1 is always to take worst case scenario into account.

It can get preety expensive. You have to take into account not only rent, but food, water, cable, gas, and just random things that pop up here and there.

1)Well, alot if you're not planning to run away from rent days.

2) Find some good, reliable  blokes first. And then it'll be easy.

3) Bringing a girl back.

4) Ha, basically pay rent, and don't make noise.

5) Well, furnishings are a luxury. Just get the basics first, then work out want you want by thinking about how much time you are going to spend there.

6) No impluse buying, and try to record some of your bigger purchases by keeping the receipts, and then make estimations on future spending.

My tips:

  1. Avoid roommates.  If you ABSOLUTELY have to have roommates, get a house, townhouse, or split-level apartment.  Nothing sucks more than not being able to put some distance between you and your loud, annoying roommates.
  2. Live minimally.  If your favorite things are a bicycle, a TV, a video game system, and a nice pair of sneakers, just stick with that.  Wait till you get married for stereos, cars, motorcycles, clothes, expensive liquor, books, fancy furniture, etc.  If you can live without it, do that.
  3. Spend as much time as possible (without being ridiculous) away from home.  If you study, find a park.  If you play games, go to a friend's place or invite them to yours, if you're watching a game, go to a bar or a friend's 'cause man nothing is more depressing than realizing you haven't stepped out of the house in days.
  4. Don't get stuck with a-holes.  Make sure you know these people, roommates AND landlords.  You could fill an oil tanker with all the people I wish I'd never lived with.
  5. EDIT: Use Craigslist.org to its fullest potential.  I furnished my brother's apartment for $0 USD.

All of those questions depend on a lot of different things. I know I am going to get my own apartment when I finish college and make it a real bachelor pad. I am looking foward to having a nice place to myself, whether it is here in Westchester, or in Manhattan, NYC.
