Apparently an auto mechanic teacher at my school got in a fight with a student and beat him up, he's now fired. The kid started it by punching him in the face then he beat the kid up. Do you guys think he is in the right or the wrong? Have you guys had anything similar happen to you.

I would post the video of him beating the kid up but youtube took the video down.

This is highschool btw.

So he was assaulted by the student, defended himself, and then got fired? That's nice.

I remembered something like that happened when I was in primary 6. A teacher put a kid under a table and kicked him, he was never fired though. I don't think anybody else even knew about it.

The teacher was well within his rights to defend himself and shouldn't have gotten fired. However, a smarter option would've been to not hit back, and charge the kid. Then again, I don't know the details of what actually happened.

its not defending when you beat the kid up,maybe if it is like one or two punches to get him off and away

Well if he 'beat the kid up' then I can see why. A much better, and more professional option for a teacher would be to restrain the pupil.

Teacher started a fight with me in school once, we were having a disagreement and I walked away when he decided to trip me from behind and pin me to the ground. He didn't get sired, goddamn religious school.

That's f*cked up^

Why did the kid punch him in the first place anyway? The kid probably deserved it but the school really had no other choice

once at my school.

kid: "I'm leaving" (whiny humorous voice).

teacher: "sit down down george !!!"

kid: "I'm leaving", "I'm leaving"

teacher: " omg if you leave I'm going to ***** kill you".

kid" "alright I'm leaving now!" *leaves*

teacher: *grabs metal ruler and starts chasing him into the hall*, *attempts to basically behead the kid in a full on swing with both hands.*

kid: "aah!!!" (blood runs down his neck).

Oh boy the teacher was in trouble that day.

Ah and now that I actually think about before I went to high school a teacher punched a student at basketball practice or something like that. He didn't get fired, he just wasn't allowed to coach anymore. He was a really good teacher actually so I'm kind of glad he didn't get fired

Hmm, I remember a student mouthed off to a teacher at my school, the teacher punched him, and all the teacher had to do was anger management. I dunno, maybe there's a possible lawsuit there by the teacher since the teacher was attacked first. Anyhow, I had a roommate that used to work for Sam Goody like a decade ago just after it was bought out by Best Buy, their store policy was that if you get into a fight you're fired, didn't matter if you started it, you could have just been minding your business and got jumped out of nowhere and you're fired. And from what I was told people did get fired for things out of their control.

That's pretty good, but I have a better story! I shouldn't be telling you this, but... A teacher at my school got stoned and threw a party in the classroom. They found a bong in her car, now she's FIRED!

Sounds like the kid deserved it. That's the problem with the culture in the US these days. People get away with sh!t all the time because if you defend yourself YOUR the one who gets in trouble. If more people got their ass kicked for being a jerk I garantee you people would be nicer or think twice before hitting their teacher. Unfortunately, the law is on the side of the a-holes.

If what you said is the full story and he in no way instigated this fight then I say that he is in the right. It may not be a very responsible thing for a grown man to do but I didn't see the interaction so I have no right to judge.

No, the law is on the side of "Please dont hurt anyone without reason to do so" "omg, you poked me with a stick, technically it's assault so now i get to curb stomp you til your life hangs by a thread" I dont think anyone would ever want self defense laws that allowed for overuse of force.

Punching a guy is assault- poking him with a stick is not. In a similar story from a few years back, a man breaks into an old woman's house and so she hits him with a baseball bat, shattering his kneecap. He won a settlement because he couldn't work with his broken knee. Stories like this make me hate the American justice system sometimes.

Tough call. As a teacher you shouldn't be fighting with your students, but if the student did indeed punch him in the face, he had the right to defend himself. It's not like we're talking about kids here. Teens know what they're doing when they throw a punch.

Honestly, it sounds like the kid deserved it. If the teacher was able to beat him up, he probably should have tried to restrain him, but I don't think it was right to fire him. A suspension maybe, to get the kid's parents of the school's back, but firing him for defending himself isn't right.
