I'm from the South West of England. I only go London when i'm going to take a flight from Gatwick airport. I'm more of a country person me, but I go Nottingham City and Birmingham, not so much London. To be honest, the place scares me, very different mentality to the people over there to where I live. Here, i'm the weirdo, but overthere, i sort of fit in, and that's scary!

Not sure about crime, but I would imagine is along the same lines as New York etc. Some area's are bad but thats just like every other city. A lot of places around London and the South are expensive. Oxford being one of the them. I currently reside in Southampton and that can be pretty expensive.

Yeah there are certain parts of London that are more dangerous then others but if you go to the right places then you shouldn't experience any crime to yourself.

Its a pretty interesting city, loads of things to do and see, although the weather is depressing (though this can also be applied to the rest of England) and everything is really expensive.

it does contain Lillywhites though, which is quite possibly the greatest shop in existance so I guess that raises my overall opinion of the city up a bit.

Ahem! Staines, is not a bad place. Its a fine place to grow up. There is no West Staines Massiv or East Staines Massiv. Its that damn Ali G giving it a bad name. :P

I'd definitely like to visit, partly because I wouldn't need to learn a new language in order to visit.

I loved the place, but it's the only city in the world where I've ever been mugged (in broad daylight, on a major street, no less).

Fortunately everything was so expensive there that I'd already spent most of my money the day before, and didn't lose much more than a train ticket.

Big city. Pretty lively. Easy to get around public transport. Not so easy by private transport. Generally overpriced. Lots of tourism/history. Lots of theatre. Quality but pricey shopping. Generally second rate pubs. Not the best weather. Rather dank and dark at times. Some areas are nice, others are drab and dreary. Single greatest improvement in past 20 years:traffic charge in city core. Wouldn't make my top 10 cities to live in. Might squeak into my top 10 cities to visit for a week.

For reference, I am from Canada and I have been to a lot of places in the world, over a number of decades.

I've only been to London a couple of times. The museums are interesting but most stuff there is overpriced in the shops. Fortunately, I'm not much of a shopper. However I have applied to go to Imperial College next year, so if things work out I could end up living there. One thing that's worried me is how safe it is, the city centres are usually safe simply due to the sheer number of people about, but I kept considering living in some dank street full of hoodlums who'd mug me in an instant. Though after seeing what other students there had to say it doesn't seem so bad, the general consensus is that it's no worse than any other city, excluding some residential areas where things are horrible and should be avoided

Would visit, not live......its just not my scene, don't like the buildings, its probably due to my hatred of medeval looking things =D and the accents would get annoying.

I'd probably visit it for a few days, but I wouldn't want to be involved in any form of extended stay. I prefer the country side... with few people about.
