They're both awesome, but longboarding gets the nod for me. It's simply because skateboarding has become WAY too competitive, the first thing anyone says when you tell them you skate is "oh, what tricks can you do?" I LOVE longboarding, I go out late in the night and just relax cruising down hills, simply the best!

Skateboarding by far. I've done both, but I love the feeling of learning a new trick and landing it for the first time. Chilling with friends? Definitely regular skateboarding. Just expect to be practicing quite a bit.
Skateboarding. Though, since my knees started having problems several years ago (about 2004), it has been difficult for me to do it anymore. I'd love to be able to lose a bunch of weight, get my knees on the mend and get back into it though.

Yeah, I do both, and I actually like skateboarding, but it hurts when you fall and I am not into that. If I am going to be pulling tricks... biffing on a wakeboard hurts way less, or at least for a shorter time than skateboarding does. Snowboarding also isnt as bad as skateboarding, so I picked that up as well.
i've never really longboarded but it looks pretty fun. but i'm not too shabby on a regular skateboard. i got a decent ollie and an alright kickflip and basic stuff. but just riding down hills is good fun, that's why i think i would enjoy longboarding.
